On International Youth Day, Capella Hotels and Resorts and the brand’s valued non-profit partner, SolarBuddy, an organization dedicated to addressing energy poverty for children are launching a new initiative to donate a SolarBuddy lamp on behalf of each guest checking in at any of Capella’s properties worldwide on Saturday, August 12.

This collaborative effort aims to illuminate the lives of those in need and provide opportunities for young minds to flourish, as both organizations work together to make a positive impact.

As part of an initiative to push for more donations, Capella Hotels and Resorts implemented micro-donations on their booking website in a bid to increase contributions since 2022.

“We are thrilled to continue to support SolarBuddy this International Youth Day as part of our larger Capella Youth Initiative,” said Cristiano Rinaldi, President, Capella Hotel Group.

“Sustainability and a forward-looking approach are integral to our brand’s philosophy, and the younger generation plays a vital role in shaping that vision. We remain committed to ensuring that every child has the means and opportunities to learn and flourish.”

Around the world, 789 million people live in darkness and have minimal access to light when the sun sets. To enable visibility at night, energy-poverty communities depend on rural forms of energy such as using fuel-based kerosene lamps. These energy sources not only emit high carbon dioxide but harm the health and wellbeing of people using them.

Through SolarBuddy’s renewable solar-powered lights, children will benefit from a productive study environment after dusk, determining their own future and those of generations to come.

In addition, the sustainable solar invention eliminates families’ kerosene expenditure per annum, leading to overall economic development and improvement in quality of life.

Founder of SolarBuddy, Simon Doble, emphasises, “Every child should have the right to a safe environment to study in and to learn the skills to achieve a better standard of living when they grow up, breaking the cycle of poverty.”

Inspired by the light that illuminates the night sky, Capella Hotels and Resorts shines a spotlight on each destination’s local heritage, culture and community.

As custodians of the community, the hospitality group is dedicated to the enrichment of their surroundings and the lives of their community. Capella acts as mentors to youth and participates in school initiatives to empower them to create a better tomorrow.

Guests keen to show their support and share the joy of clean, safe and reliable lighting with youth can also contribute to Capella’s fundraiser on their landing page here.

All donations will go directly towards purchasing SolarBuddy’s sustainable solar lights for the beneficiary communities.

As a proud member of the Global Hotel Alliance (GHA) DISCOVERY loyalty programme, Capella Hotels and Resorts has recently made enhancements to its offering so that CAPELLA DISCOVERY members can benefit from even more elite recognition and rewards along with exclusive access to curated experiences.
