And for the past 85 years, he’s been doing just that.

Taylor’s 18-year-long career with Hilton began simply enough. As he was looking for a way to “keep moving” after retiring from Texas Instruments he stumbled on a newspaper ad for a concierge job and decided to hand-deliver his resume, which he hammered out on a typewriter, to Hilton Dallas Lincoln Centre.

As a company, Hilton is proud of its culture of inclusion, which is strengthened by five generations of team members working and learning together across all levels of the company.

Throughout September, Hilton is celebrating team members like Taylor as part of Intergenerational Month, a global movement emphasizing the benefits of intergenerational relationships and the importance of closing generational gaps.

For Hilton, having a diverse workplace comprised of different generations is an important part of providing a work environment that brings together unique perspectives and knowledge.

By interacting with team members like Taylor, whose long history of working in hospitality dates back to helping at his parents’ general store throughout his youth, Hilton guests can experience a taste of old-school customer service filled with special connections and personalized experiences. Taylor believes it's the little things that make “The Stay.”

As such, he works to develop relationships with the people he meets at Hilton Dallas Lincoln Centre and writes customized notes to guests during their stay.

“True hospitality goes very deeply,” said Taylor.

“It means that you help other people be themselves – comfortable and honest and relaxed."

For Taylor, the intergenerational relationships he’s formed while working at Hilton are a major reason he’s stayed with the company for so long. What he once viewed as a post-retirement hobby has turned into an 18-year-long career full of cherished memories and storied friendships.

“It’s a dynamic environment,” said Taylor. “I’ve got all these young people to keep me there on the edge. So, I think it keeps me alive.”
