Villa Rauhalinna Guestroom Photo credit © Rauhalinna Rauhalinna is a landmark in Finnish architectural history and is arguably the most luxurious lace villa in the country, boasting extraordinary unique wooden architecture and craftsmanship.
The opulent original 4-bedroom Villa Rauhalinna houses an elaborate Grand Dining Hall and Salon, a billiards lounge, the dramatic Turkish Room, and various other remarkable entertaining and living spaces.
Next door to the villa is the 2-bedroom Pavilion House (an exact replica of the original building that once stood there, including the sauna), and a modern 4-bedroom Guest House, ideal for those who prefer more contemporary accommodations and furnishings.
The Lakehouse building lies directly on the shore and is a sleek-lined modern natural haven designed by Finnish architecture firm, OOPEAA, which also led the meticulous restoration of the historic Villa Rauhalinna. The Lakehouse features an expansive lounge, summer room, full kitchen, Jacuzzi, firepit, private swimming pier, a standard sauna and a smoke sauna, which is the oldest and most traditional type of Finnish sauna.
The property is more than 100 hectares and has its own 3.4 km shoreline on Lake Saimaa.
Lake Saimaa also provides a home for the Saimaa ringed seal, which is one of the rarest seals in the world and can also be seen basking on the shores by Rauhalinna. A private pier encourages arrival and exploration by private yacht or steamboat, the latter offering an unforgettable combination of tradition and natural beauty. There is also a helipad on property for guests who prefer to arrive by air.
Rauhalinna is located in Savonlinna, 333 km northeast of Helsinki, Finland.
The property welcomes guests year-round with an abundance of enriching activities throughout the seasons, including mushroom foraging in the spring and fall, hiking, biking, water activities galore, ice fishing, and sometimes sightings of the Northern Lights in winter. Guests can enjoy special, secluded escapes or host remarkable celebrations and events here.
Rauhalinna provides an enchanting setting for weddings, private leisure celebrations and formal occasions for up to 50 guests, with summer events extending seamlessly outdoors for as many as 80.
Rates start at €8500 (approximately USD$9930) per night in low season and €11,500 (approximately USD$13,430) per night in high season for the 10-room buyout. There is no minimum night stay. Reservations can be made via www.rauhalinna.fi/en/.
About Savonlinna & Lake Saimaa
Founded in 1639, Savonlinna is one of the oldest cities in Finland. Nestled in the heart of Lake Saimaa, it combines breathtaking natural scenery with a rich, layered history and a lively cultural scene. Every July, Savonlinna is brought to life by the brilliance of its world-renowned Opera Festival, as the ancient walls of Olavinlinna Castle are transformed into a stage for unforgettable performances. Visitors can also enjoy the city's rich collection of museums and art galleries. The nearby town of Kerimäki is home to the world's largest wooden church – an awe-inspiring symbol of Finnish craftsmanship and devotion. Savonlinna is also famous for its traditional steamships, which have carried travelers across Lake Saimaa for centuries.
