New bar launched at Shangri-La, The Marina, Cairns

Bá8 Lounge Bar at Shangri-La Hotel, The Marina, Cairns was launched with an exclusive invitation only party on 15 November 2007 and is now officially open for business.
A casual and relaxing late night venue, the name “Bá8,” pronounced bar eight, stems from the Asian influence of the Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts brand and a belief in Chinese numerology. An auspicious number, eight stands for good potential and growth. The name is contemporary, with good qi or energy.
With a new name comes a new philosophy. Formerly a part of Tides restaurant, the new interior design concept is that of Frank Fattor from V Arc, Melbourne. The layout is arranged to incorporate new furniture, which was custom-made in Australia, with two types of settings: high bar tables and stools; and low lounge and ottoman style seating to create a relaxed contemporary alfresco lounge configuration, which stretches the length of the outdoor undercover deck with views onto the marina. A colour palette of chocolate brown and beige, with accents of turquoise and silver, give the bar its contemporary flavour.
On offer for patrons is an extensive Australian and New Zealand wine list with 8 white, 8 red and 8 champagne wines by the glass options, as well as boutique beer. The tapas menu gives patrons the opportunity to enjoy chic snacking until midnight.
“Bá8 is ideal for social gatherings, afternoon drinks on the deck, and for listening to lounge music with the resident DJ who plays Thursday to Saturday. We are very happy that after much research and planning we can bring this type of relaxed venue to Cairns for the niche market that has been waiting for such a venue,” said Mr Bruno Cristol, general manager of Shangri-La Hotel, The Marina, Cairns.

Guests can familiarise themselves with the newest bar on the waterfront with the “Time Out” package. The “Time Out” package includes one night’s accommodation for two people, one in-house movie, and A$60 bar credit per day in Bá8 Lounge Bar. Also included in the package is complimentary use of the gym, spa, sauna and swimming pool. This package is valid until 29 December 2007 and is available from just A$270 per couple in a Superior Room, subject to availability.
