As The Lana, the new jewel in the crown of the Dorchester Collection in Dubai, opens its doors in November 2023, the group has just unveiled the talents joining the hotel’s management committee. Richard Alexander, General Manager of the hotel, appointed in 2022, is surrounding himself with 10 seasoned professionals to manage this long-awaited property.

Richard Alexander already has Dubai experience, having managed the Jumeirah Al Naseem in Dubai in 2017. He joins the Emirate from the Bahamas, where he spent five years at the helm of various hotels in the region.

Our colleagues at Hotelier Middle East have just unveiled the names of those who will be supporting Richard Alexander in this adventure.

A cosmopolitan and expert management team

Marco Conte is leaving his position as Residence Manager at Principe Di Savoia Milan to take charge of accommodation as Hotel Director. He is joined by Edoardo Buffin de Chosal, who has moved all the way from London to become Director of Rooms, after two years as Customer Service Manager at Dorchester Collection's London headquarters. This luxury professional, who has already distinguished himself as Rooms Division Manager at Baglioni Hotels in London, will be a great support.

Two women also join the accommodation team. Carol Shaw is appointed Executive Housekeeper. Since her stint at the Royal Abjar Hotel Dubai, this professional has enjoyed a faultless career, notably with the Shangri-La and Kempinski groups, before her latest assignment with Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts. She thus left Riyadh and Saudi Arabia for the Emirate of Dubai. Finally, Yana Zapryanova joins the team as Residences Director. She will only have to bypass the Burj Khalifa to reach her new mission, as she was Front Desk Manager at the Ritz-Carlton Dubai International Financial Centre.

Attention is also focused on managing the hotel's seven restaurants. While Frenchman Nicolas Caupain, a graduate of École de Savignac who has also worked at the Ritz-Carlton and Jumeirah, arrives from the Hong Kong Jockey Club, where he has been for the past eight years. He joins the hotel as F&B Director, teaming up with Executive Chef Oliver Jackson, who arrives from Australia, where he worked for the Langham Hospitality Group, in 2022, to prepare the opening of the hotel and its culinary signature.

To manage Communications and Marketing, a communications chameleon, Carlotta Cavallari, brings a wealth of experience to the team, notably at Condé Nast. She also served as Deputy Director of Marketing and Communications at the Armani Hotel Dubai, Burj Khalifa, and was involved in the pre-opening of the Palace Beach Resort in Fujairah.

Appointed at the same time as Richard Alexander, Ronnie Mirza, who trained at Les Roches School of Hospitality Management and comes from Sandals Resorts International in the northern Caribbean region, is now Finance Director. At his side is Alexandre Hulen, Director of Sales and Marketing. He too is no stranger to the Emirate, as this revenue management guru has a number of assignments to his credit in Dubai, including Director of Sales and Marketing at the One & Only Royal Mirage Dubai. On the technical side, the General Manager has enlisted the services of Jakub Adamowicz, who is familiar with the IHG and Marriott International groups.

Employees should also receive the attention they deserve, with Nina Ptok, who joined Richard Alexander in 2022, as Director of People and Culture. Having worked in Dubai for eight years, this professional, who came straight from The Arts Club after more than four years at the Sheraton Grand Hotel Dubai, will be able to adapt her methods to the Emirate's prerequisites.

The ultra-luxury rule

In the heart of the booming Business Bay district, The Lana will bring all the expertise of the Dorchester Collection to life. The hotel, designed by London architects Foster + Partners and with interiors by Australian studio Verhall and Parisian agency Gilles & Boissier, offers a harmonious blend of space and light, spectacular views and contemporary touches, all cultivating the "Emirati spirit of innovation".

The result of a partnership between OMNYIAT, a Kuwaiti real estate development group that is making a big splash in the luxury hotel industry, and Dorchester Collection, well-versed in the practice of service excellence where ultra-luxury is the rule, The Lana will align 225 keys spread over 30 floors.

With over a third of the rooms and suites larger than 50 square meters, The Lana will stand out for both its level of sophistication and its range of services. The culinary experience will take pride of place with seven restaurants, as will well-being, since The Lana will boast a spa as well as a rooftop with swimming pool, which will compete with the many rooftops in the Business Bay district.

With such an array of talent and services, all eyes will no doubt be on Dubai's Business Bay this November, to witness a spectacular opening.
