Launched in 1998, the 'Young Clefs d'Or' challenge aims not only to recognise and encourage young talent, but also to fully integrate them into the international Clefs d'Or community. The winner earns a ticket to the Clefs d'Or International Congress, which this year takes place in Bali from 21 to 26 April 2024.

A structured competition

16 candidates from all over France competed to become the Best Young Clefs d'Or Concierge in France. To be eligible, candidates had to be under 36 years of age, hold a "hotel concierge" position (assistant concierge, assistant head concierge, head concierge, concierge, rotating concierge, etc.), and never have attended an International Congress. “Only active members who have been recommended by their head concierge are invited to take part in the Trophy,” Dimitri Ruiz, President of Clefs d'Or France, told Le Journal des Palaces.

A successful cooptation for Julie Benhaïm, Clefs d'Or concierge at the Four Seasons Hotel George V, and valedictorian of the tenth year of the FPE Hotel Concierge course at the Occitanie hospitality industry and tourism college, this year's winner.

Half a day of tests

It took overcoming several obstacles and mastering the world of concierges and the Clefs d'Or to reach the podium. Half a day of tests awaited the candidates. Starting with a general knowledge questionnaire to be completed in two hours, comprising fifty or so questions on subjects such as geography, history, gastronomy and oenology, various regulations, current affairs, sport, fashion, specialities, etc.

They then had 30 minutes to write a letter “in English, on a customer issue or a motivation to represent Les Clefs d'Or France internationally” and 30 minutes to take part in a new quiz, on the theme of “Les Clefs d'Or from yesterday to today”.

A winner and a bright future

At the Clefs d'Or France end-of-year dinner at the Shangri-La Paris hotel, Julie Benhaïm was named France's Best Young Clefs d'Or Concierge, earning her a trip to Bali. “What a pleasure to have taken part in this wonderful adventure with other young concierges whom I enjoyed discovering. I'm proud to be able to continue this international experience and represent France at the 68th UICH Les Clefs d'Or conference in Bali,” said the winner on her LinkedIn account.

Les Clefs d'Or events are going from strength to strength, and they are already announcing a potential 20 to 30 candidates for the 2024 Trophy. The format is also set to evolve, as the Trophy's steering committee plans to move to a one-day event, including workshops and role-playing exercises. Proud of this success and these prospects, Dimitri Ruiz points out that “these trophies showcase our profession, Les Clefs d'Or and these new generations”.
