Upscale Resort in the Netherlands Antilles to Open in 2010

Hilton Hotels Corporation announced today the groundbreaking on the Hilton Bonaire Resort & Spa, a new and upscale property being developed in collaboration with Azul Management Bonaire, Inc. Hilton has entered into a franchise license agreement with Azul to develop what will be one of the island’s premier hotels. Construction on the 144-room resort will begin summer 2008, and the resort is expected to open in July of 2010.

The Hilton Bonaire Resort & Spa will feature 132 elegant guest rooms and 12 luxuriously appointed suites, offering guests luxury amenities including the rooftop Azul Fitness Center & Spa, a world-class dive facility, two restaurants and a variety of shops.

“The Hilton Bonaire Resort & Spa will represent a unique offering for guests looking to relax and experience the calm of the Caribbean and some of the world’s best diving,” said Jeff Diskin, senior vice president of brand management – Hilton Hotels & Resorts. “We look forward to partnering with Azul Management Bonaire on this exciting project and to adding yet another unique guest opportunity to our portfolio.”

Bonaire, a quaint Dutch protectorate in the warm waters of the Caribbean, is recognized for its focus on environmental preservation, particularly of the island’s marine environment which makes it an ideal destination for scuba diving, snorkeling and windsurfing.

"We are very proud that we were able to attract the prestigious Hilton Hotels to Bonaire," said Ramoncito Booi, senior advisor to the Government of Bonaire, and the island’s former tourism commissioner. “Hilton’s mission of warm hospitality perfectly describes the way we view tourism in Bonaire. This world-class brand will significantly enhance our tourism offerings to high-end travelers, while offering the island much increased international exposure as a very special place to vacation.”

The property will be built on a canal system on the southern edge of Kralendijk, Bonaire’s capital, just north of the island’s Flamingo Airport. The navigable canals provide easy dockside access to dive boats and private vessels.
