The Tivoli Palácio de Seteais, the most charismatic hotel in the Tivoli hotels group, has closed in order to start extensive restoration and remodelling work.

The group is to invest 6.5 million euros to restore this Palace to its former splendour and work expected to take eleven months. Reopening is scheduled for the beginning of 2009.

The restoration of furniture and items of decorative art will be undertaken by the Ricardo Espírito Santo Silva Foundation.

With the aim of increasing the level of service and comfort provided to guests, work will be carried out on rooms, service areas, the restaurant, bar, outdoor swimming pool and even the famous gardens will be given special attention.

Tivoli Hotels will obviously be maintaining the original lines of the building which bring it its charisma, personality, charm and the status of being one of the best hotels in Portugal.

“The history of the Palace goes back to the XVIII century, when it was built by Daniel Gildemeester, the Dutch consul in Portugal at the time.

At the end of the same century, the Palace was sold to the fifth Marquis of Marialva, chief equerry of the Realm, who added a new building to the original structure and joined the two wings with an arch.

Many are the famous figures who have stayed at the Palácio de Seteias including politicians, musicians, artists and actors. Among the signatures in the Hotel’s guest book are those of Joan Collins, Roman Polanski, William Hurt, Mick Jagger, David Bowie, Agatha Christie, Brad Pitt, Senator Barry Goldwater, Johnny Depp, Roger Moore, Kylie Minogue, Paul Simon, Art Garfunkel, Alain Prost, Richard Nixon and Nelson Rockefeller, among others“
