The W Brand’s First Hotel in China, Third in Asia to Open this August in Time for the 2008 Olympic Games

HONG KONG – Jun 5, 2008 – W Hotels Worldwide, the fastest growing luxury hotel brand in the world, brings its signature Whatever/Whenever service philosophy, whimsical design and unique amenities to the city of Hong Kong with the debut of the first W Hotel in China, W Hong Kong. Where skyscrapers and a giant Buddha graze the heavens, W Hong Kong sits among modern splendor, oriental markets, and historical culture.

Scheduled to officially debut in September 2008, W Hong Kong will open a selection of rooms in early August, about one week prior to the commencement of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. W Hong Kong will feature 393 luxurious guest rooms with unobstructed views of the famed Hong Kong skyline, a lavish spa to awaken the senses, a state-of the- art gym, 8,200 square feet of convertible meeting space, and two world-class signature restaurants and a destination bar.

A dazzling star amid urban neon lights, W Hong Kong is ideally located in the heart of the city’s burgeoning West Kowloon commercial, entertainment, and cultural district. The new hotel will be the closest structure to the city’s newest commercial landmark, the International Commerce Centre, and the only hotel connected to the city’s celebrated Elements shopping mall. The most anticipated hotel opening in Hong Kong in years, W Hong Kong will mark the W brand’s third hotel in Asia, bringing with it W’s 10-year tradition of innovative design, signature amenities and warm, whimsical style. W will continue to expand in Asia with plans to open hotels and retreats in Bangkok, Guangzhou, Macao-Studio City, Shanghai and Yokohama.

A breathtaking display of landscaped trees in the lobby and bold infusions of wood, fire, earth, metal, and water in the guest rooms lend a feng shui flow to W Hong Kong, creating a nature-inspired oasis within a cosmopolitan cityscape. Guests are invited to enjoy a lavish spa treatment to awaken the senses, a state-of-the-art gym to work up a SWEAT and delectable dining. Signature restaurants Fire and Kitchen will feature cuisine under the leadership of celebrated New Zealand-born Executive Chef, Michael Poutawa. The hotel will also draw both guests and locals alike with sizzling food and beverage offerings from W’s destination bar, where a live deejay will spin music for chilling day and night.

W Hong Kong will offer some of the city’s most spacious guest rooms, outfitted with the finest audio/video technology including standard High Definition Sharp 42” LCD televisions, KEF 5.1 surround sound systems with DVD /CD players, i-Pod docking stations and bathtub LCD screens. The rooms will all have both wired and wireless high-speed Internet access as well as generous workstations for business travelers. W Hong Kong will also boast the city’s most highly elevated swimming pool at 700 feet above street level, and will introduce Hong Kong to Bliss® spa, which originated at the world’s very first W in New York City.

Guest rooms will feature designs by Australian firm g+a [nicholas graham + associates] and renowned Japanese firm Glamorous on alternate floors. Of the 393 rooms, 42 will be Bang & Olufsen fitted suites, including one 2,200 square-foot Extreme WOW Suite, which promises to be a modern lifestyle phenomenon, even by Hong Kong standards. All rooms and suites will feature the signature W bed and its standard 400 thread count linens complemented by goose-down pillows and duvets.

Meeting the heightened demand for meeting and conference facilities in West Kowloon, W Hong Kong is fashioning its event space for medium-sized groups who seek the highest level in A/V technology and facilities. The hotel will offer more than 10,000 square feet of total function and pre-function space and eight possible meeting rooms. W Hong Kong will also offer new variations of the W brand’s signature Sensory Setups and Recess™ activities – well known to top companies in cities including New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Seattle and Miami (and many more) who seek new elements to heighten meeting experiences.

W Hong Kong was announced in July 2004, when Starwood Hotels & Resorts and Sun Hung Kai Properties agreed to a two-hotel project including W Hotels in Hong Kong and Lujiazui – the financial district of Pudong, Shanghai. W Hong Kong will join two existing W properties in Asia: W Seoul and W Maldives – both award-winning hotels – and precede new W openings in Guangzhou, Bali, Bangkok, Koh Samui, Yokohama, and Macau.

W Hong Kong will round out the guest experience with the brand’s signature Whatever/Whenever® service, delivering whatever guests want, whenever they want it – from a pair of running shoes to private jet service – so “as long as it’s legal!”
