A FEAST OF CREATIVITY AT MY PLACE

Known as an “art gallery masquerading as a hotel”, Langham Place, Beijing Capital Airport is the only hotel in the capital with its own 24-hour Art Gallery showcasing expertly curated seasonal exhibitions of latest works by exciting local artists. The Art Gallery’s Spring Art Exhibition, which was unveiled on 18 March 2011 and will run for three months, features fresh artists and inspiration under the theme of ‘Childhood and Growing Up’.

“Inspired by springtime rebirth and new beginnings, this exhibition looks at childhood and the uncomfortable transformation into adulthood as seen by a talented group of young artists who themselves are reflecting on newfound maturity and confidence,” says Langham Place, Beijing Capital Airport’s Art Gallery Curator, Tom Pattinson.

Spring’s featured artists include: Liu Tingting, Zhang Lin, Guo Kaijun, Lv Guangang, Wang Xipeng, Chen Fei and Yu Meijuan. The crowd-pleasing works include a charming series of colourful portraits by Liu Tingting entitled The Annoyance of Growing that awakens the wide-eyed child in any viewer. In contrast, Lv Guangang – who, at 40, is one of the older exhibiting artists – depicts the anonymity and uniformity of children growing up in early 1970s China, and their ability to find enjoyment in even the darkest of playthings.

Zhang Lin’s ghostly works show the early eroticism of discovering one’s own body and sexuality, while the sculptures by Chen Fei and Yu Meijuan mix the innocence of youth with a more mature understanding of Chinese nationalism, religion and culture. All art pieces are available for sale.

“Inspired by Beijing, capital of the hugely popular Chinese contemporary art scene – art and creativity infuses every aspect of Langham Place, Beijing Capital Airport. We’re excited to continue to support emerging local talents and offer a stimulating, new-age approach to five-star luxury,” says General Manager Mark Francis. Beyond the dedicated gallery, Langham Place, Beijing Capital Airport features a collection of more than 400 canvases, sculptures and art installations on public display throughout the hotel.

Langham Place, Beijing Capital Airport is situated right next to Beijing Capital International Airport’s iconic Sir Norman Foster-designed Terminal 3. The first ‘airport lifestyle hotel’ features DJs in the lobby, loft-style apartments and a 24-hour high-tech environment for work and play in its 372 rooms, two-storey Club L lounge, five exciting restaurants and bars – and leading Art Gallery.
