For the third time since 2003, Embassy Suites Hotels has been honored with an Effie Award, one of the crowning achievements in the advertising and marketing industries. The brand was awarded for its innovative “Snap Happy” summer photo contest, which was introduced in 2005.

The recognition is not based on creative components of the campaign, but rather on the campaign's results. With the bronze Effie Award, the Embassy Suites Hotels brand joins an elite group of national consumer brands who have received multiple awards, including IBM, Apple, Pepsi, Budweiser and Gillette.

“This is a very prestigious honor for not only our brand, but also our targeted marketing efforts,” said Jim Holthouser, senior vice president, brand management, Embassy Suites Hotels. “Marketing is more than just clever creative and catchy tag lines–ultimately, it's about results. To be honored by the New York American Marketing Association for a campaign that produced great results is quite a distinguished honor.”

The cornerstone of the Snap Happy photo contest was embassysnaphappy.com, an online photo album where families could upload their vacation photos for a chance to win one of ten family vacations to Hawaii. As a result, nearly 3,000 photos were uploaded to the site and more than 2,400 people registered for the promotion.

“The Snap Happy contest was designed to capture the very essence of why families take vacations – to create memories,” said John Lee, vice president, brand marketing for Embassy Suites Hotels. “Our Web site gave them a place to showcase their family memories for a chance to win a very cool prize.”

The Embassy Suites Snap Happy campaign generated more than $30 million in tracked revenue during the three-month summer season. Meanwhile, the Snap Happy Web site averaged a whopping 40,000 hits a day as visitors typically spent an average of eight minutes at the site.
