In his most recent role, he was General Manager at Mandarin Oriental Bosphorus, Istanbul from February 2024 to July 2025.

Matthias Kindl succeeds Christian Wildhaber, who has been appointed General Manager of Mandarin Oriental, Jakarta. Wildhaber played an instrumental role in the successful pre-opening and launch of Mandarin Oriental Palace, Luzern, following its extensive multi-year renovation and restoration.

Kindl is widely known as a dynamic and results-driven General Manager with a distinguished career in international luxury hospitality spanning over 28 years, including leadership roles at some of the most prestigious Mandarin Oriental properties across the globe.

Throughout his career, Kindl has successfully led large, diverse teams across multiple continents, from overseeing operations at Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur during highly competitive times to managing the successful launch of bespoke food and beverage outlets in Abu Dhabi, Taipei and Sanya. His approach blends strategic business acumen with a deep commitment to developing people, building belief, and leading with empathy.

In his new role at Mandarin Oriental Palace, Luzern, Kindl will draw on his international expertise to continue the tradition of excellence at the historic lakeside gem, strengthening its position as one of Switzerland's premier luxury destinations. The hotel reopened in 2022 after a meticulous restoration, blending historical Belle Époque elegance with contemporary luxury and design.

There's something instantly welcoming about Mandarin Oriental Palace, Luzern – the people, the atmosphere, the pride in doing things well. I'm excited to be here and to lead a team that's passionate about creating memorable experiences. This hotel has a great legacy, and I'm looking forward to building on it,” said Matthias Kindl.
