Online Component Complements 2009 Printed Directory

Leading Spas, the first global evaluation and accreditation program for luxury spas, has launched a sophisticated new website that offers spa enthusiasts a comprehensive platform for researching, exploring and booking appointments – as well as stays – at the best spas around the world. Built as a companion to the annual printed Leading Spas Directory, www.lhwspas.com boasts several supplementary benefits for today‟s savvy, demanding and time-deficient traveler. With improved navigation and a cohesive design, visitors can now easily browse the 108 exceptional Leading Spas, which can be identified by location, type and setting. Additionally, the enhanced experience allows visitors to more efficiently discover and book exclusive offers. A section called “Spa Life” includes a „Spapedia‟ (glossary of spa terms), tips on spa etiquette, news on hot treatment trends and announcements regarding latest Leading Spa inductees. Leading Spas also recently developed and launched SpaLinx, an online booking tool that enables guests to review specific treatment descriptions and make appointments prior to arriving at their chosen Leading Spa. This technology is currently engaged by 60 Leading Spas.

Launched in late 2004, Leading Spas is the brainchild of The Leading Hotels of the World. In order to qualify, hotel and resort spas must reside within a Leading Hotel and undergo an anonymous inspection of all aspects of its spa facilities. Leading Spas has recently expanded membership opportunities to include free-standing, city-center day spas in key destinations around the world, of which there currently are four members. To retain the accreditation, each Leading Spa must be re-inspected and reevaluated annually.

Commenting on the Leading Spas initiative, Ted Teng, president and chief executive officer said, “We take our responsibility to our customers very seriously, and we have undertaken this evaluation initiative to ensure that, when our guests choose a spa getaway, they experience the same quality and service that they have come to expect during a stay at a Leading Hotel.” Receiving Leading Spa accreditation for the first time are:
