Monthly Report Highlights Best Destinations for Hotwire Hotel Deals in the U.S. and Canada

Hotwire.com(R), a leading discount travel site, today announced the introduction of the site's latest tool to save customers money: The Hotwire Hotel Rate Report. The report will be published monthly, and will feature the top 10 cities with the largest reductions in hotel price. And these price drops, when combined with Hotwire's already discounted prices, will help guide customers to the destinations that will maximize their travel dollars.

The Hotwire Hotel Rate Report provides up-to-date information on which U.S. and Canadian cities have the best hotel deals. To compile the report, Hotwire looks at a wide range of the top markets, compares pricing trends from the previous year, and factors in month-by-month price fluctuations. The report then highlights the destinations that have the biggest hotel price drops each month.

"Due to the current state of the economy, travelers are watching every penny more closely, and we can help," said Clem Bason, president, Hotwire Group. "The Hotwire Hotel Rate Report is part of our commitment to provide the tools that customers need to find the best and most discounted travel deals available."

Hotwire's deals this month show that hotels in some of the most popular, warm-weather winter destinations, such as Las Vegas and Orlando have come down the most in price when compared to March of 2008. But even year-round mainstays like New York City are also experiencing big price drops, while the biggest Canadian cities appear to be in a similar hotel situation as in the U.S.

When compared to the same time last year, the top 10 hotel price reductions for March 2009 include:

Rank Hotel Market Price Drop Example of a Current Hotwire
Price/Night
1 Las Vegas -34% 4-Star $82
2 Phoenix -28% 3-Star $71
3 New York -28% 3-Star $112
4 Montreal -28% 4-Star $77
5 Orlando, FL -28% 4-Star $85
6 Miami/Fort Lauderdale -27% 3-Star $92
7 Oahu, HI -26% 3-Star $92
8 Vancouver, BC -23% 4-Star $91
9 Toronto -23% 4-Star $76
10 San Francisco -18% 3.5-Star $97

"It's a great time to visit Las Vegas as the hotels there are offering some of the best discounts in the nation," said Bason. "The money you save on your room not only can be put towards a game of chance, but you can treat yourself to one of Vegas' world-class shows or even a great meal at one of the strip's top restaurants."

Hotwire works closely with brand-name hotels in top destinations to help fill unsold rooms, so customers get them at prices lower than any other travel site. Guaranteed*. Hotwire is uniquely positioned to spot pricing trends throughout the hotel industry, and the Hotel Rate Report is the newest way Hotwire helps customers find the most timely hotel deals.
