Vancouver Tops List for Second Consecutive Month with Largest Reduction in Hotel Prices in the U.S. and Canada for June

Hotwire.com®, a leading discount travel site, today announced the results of the June 2009 Hotwire® Hotel Rate Report. This monthly report features the top 10 cities in North America where hotel rates have dropped the most. When combined with Hotwire's already discounted prices, the Hotel Rate Report will help guide customers to the destinations that will maximize their travel dollars. For the second consecutive month, Vancouver and New York top the list with the largest reductions in hotel prices, with Los Angeles breaking into the top 10 for the first time.

Vancouver, the host city for the 2010 Winter Olympics continues to be the top destination for great hotel bargains, as hotel prices have dropped 38 percent when compared to last year in June. And travelers looking to see New York's plethora of landmarks also have a chance to score some deals, as New York came in second once again with a 32 percent drop in hotel prices. The report also shows some big reductions for popular, sun-soaked getaways like San Diego, Tampa, Oahu and Orlando.

When compared to the same time last year, the top 10 hotel price reductions for June 2009 include:

Example of a Current Hotwire Deal,
Rank Hotel Market Price Drop US$/Night
1 Vancouver, BC 38% 3-star $70
2 New York City, NY 32% 3-star $119
3 San Diego, CA 29% 3-star $72
4 Tampa, FL 26% 3-star $71

"With Vancouver hosting the 2010 Winter Olympics, expect hotel prices to skyrocket during that time period," said Clem Bason, President of the Hotwire Group. "Travelers looking to check out this fantastic city should take advantage of the opportunity, because hotel values are unusually good right now."
