This is a press release selected by our editorial committee and published online for free on 2009-07-27

Recent attacks on international hotels have again turned the industry's focus on security issues. The Center for Hospitality Research and Cornell Hospitality Quarterly have published several reports that address hotel managers' security concerns. For managers' convenience, we've created a specific web page for these reports at http://www.hotelschool.cornell.edu/research/chr/pubs/security/. Through the courtesy of the center's corporate partners, these reports are available at no charge. This page will be updated with additional safety and security information as it becomes available.

Current articles are as follows:

"Hotel Network Security: A Study of Computer Networks in U.S. Hotels," by Josh Ogle, Erica L. Wagner, and Mark P. Talbert;

"Safeguarding Your Customers: The Guest's View of Hotel Security," by Julie Feickert, Rohit Verma, Gerhard Plaschka, and Chekitan S. Dev;

"Changes in U.S. Hotel Safety and Security Staffing and Procedures during 2001 and 2002," by Cathy A. Enz;

"Emergency Preparedness Essentials," by Robert J. Kwortnik;

"The Safety and Security of U.S. Hotels: A Post-September 11 Report," by Cathy A. Enz and Masako S. Taylor;

"Designing and Maintaining Your Hotel for Fire Safety," by Robert E. Clinton; and

"Training Your Employees for Fire Safety," by Raymond E. Ellis.

Professor Rohit Verma, executive director of the center, has announced a new research initiative aimed at developing a better understanding of hotel safety and security. Industry practitioners will be invited to participate in this important project.
