Category: Worldwide - Industry economy - Figures / Studies
This is a press release selected by our editorial committee and published online for free on 2009-07-27

The articles in the August 2009 Cornell Hospitality Quarterly (CQ) will address key marketing, finance, and pricing issues. These and other articles will be online next week exclusively from Sage Publishing:

* By surveying customers' inclinations regarding technology, a hotel operator can not only learn about which technology to implement, but also differentiate the guests into cohesive market segments ("Exploring the Use of the Abbreviated Technology Readiness Index for Hotel Customer Segmentation");
* The current provisions of Chapter 11 of the U.S. bankruptcy code are explained ("Hotel Bankruptcies: Here Again, but with New Rules"); and
* Average daily rate changes act like a foreign-currency hedge for international hotels ("To Hedge or Not to Hedge: Revenue Management and Exchange-rate Risk").

Other articles include: "Room Risk Management at Sunquest Vacations," "Competitive Pricing in Uncertain Times," and "Loyalty Programs: Airlines Outdo the Hotels." As always this issue includes lodging market analyses from Smith Travel Research ("Pricing Power Evaporates") and PKF Consulting ("Thoughts While Waiting for RevPAR to Grow").

The issue's featured article, "Rebranding and Rescaling: Effects on Hotel Performance," which is a study of 95 hotels that changed their market scale or brand, found that the hotels' financial performance improved in the second year after they repositioned. Look for the link to the free download of this article in the center's next newsletter.

The CQ is published by the Center for Hospitality Research, and is available by electronic or paper subscription through Sage Publishing (http://cqx.sagepub.com/), which also makes individual articles available for download or page view.
