Dominik Ruhl makes long-awaited return to the Maldives as new general manager

The blossoming of Diva Maldives into one of the archipelago’s most iconic island idylls continues apace with the appointment of passionate Maldives aficionado Dominik Ruhl as general manager. With exceptional previous experience of the region, as well as of independent luxury resorts and prestigious hotel groups worldwide, Dominik brings a unique blend of expertise, imagination and enthusiasm and will further strengthen Diva’s position as one of the Maldives’ leading resorts.

After completing his hotel management training with honours and being awarded a Ritz-Carlton Scholarship, Dominik’s impressive career began in earnest with a position at the flagship Ritz-Carlton Kapalua, Hawaii, where he was promoted to director of guest services within three years. This was followed by two years in Mexico, as front of house director at the Aventura Palace Resort and then as front office manager of the Four Seasons Punta Mita, before Dominik got his first taste of the Maldives as director of operations for the Hilton Maldives Resort & Spa Rangali Island.

Dominik’s first general manager post soon followed as he led Mirihi Island Resort in the Maldives from its launch in 2003, achieving 94% occupancy the following year whilst simultaneously taking over as general manager of sister property Helengeli Island Resort. In 2006 Dominik went back to the Caribbean as area general manager for Per AQUUM Resorts before returning to the Maldives as general manager of the Anantara Maldives Resort & Spa, where he increased both average room rates and occupancies in just one year.

Most recently Dominik oversaw the rebranding of Leading Hotel of the World Marigot Bay in Saint Lucia, but the lure of the Maldives once again proved too strong, and Diva irresistible.

Says Dominik, “I am excited to return to the Maldives, and to be helping the Diva team to take this exceptional island to the next level. The property has already enjoyed fantastic reviews and accolades, and with a variety of restaurants, bars and activities like no other island in the region we will be able to provide an unmatched Maldivian experience to couples and families that might otherwise be hesitant about holidaying on a remote island. Having experienced first-hand the incredible development of the Maldives and its resorts over the past 10 years, I believe Diva has learned from past years and combined the best of many resorts on one beautiful, natural island.”

As a keen water sports enthusiast, a key focus for Dominik will be to further develop this side of offering at Diva, which enjoys a unique location in the Maldives’ largest Marine Protected Area as well as an enormous lagoon.

The Diva team has also been further strengthened with the appointment of Herveline Charlot as director of sales and marketing, and of Dolores Semeraro as public relations manager. Herveline brings 12 years experience in sales and marketing, having previously worked for more than seven years with international hotel groups including Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Marriott and Radisson. Dolores meanwhile comes to Diva having helped open the five-star Emperor Hotel in Beijing as PR and marketing manager; and the InterContinental Huizhou Resort in Guangdong, China as PR and communications manager.
