Project Represents First Renaissance Hotel to Open in Alberta.

Marriott International, Inc. (NYSE: MAR) is thrilled to announce the addition of the new Renaissance Edmonton Airport Hotel to its portfolio in Canada. When opened, the hotel will represent the first Renaissance Hotel to open in Alberta. Marriott International currently operates 74 hotels in Canada representing nine brands in its global portfolio, which includes eighteen brands.

“We are thrilled to introduce Renaissance Hotels to Edmonton,” said Tina Edmundson, senior vice president, lifestyle brands for Marriott International, Inc. “The modern design of the newly expanded EIA terminal represents the future direction of this vibrant community, making it a great fit for the Renaissance brand.”

The newly constructed hotel will be owned and operated by Platinum Investments Ltd., and is scheduled to open in the summer of 2013. The property was originally scheduled to open under the Courtyard by Marriott brand but will now be fully redesigned to reflect Renaissance Hotels, a full-service lifestyle hospitality brand. In order to complete this transformation, Platinum Investments Ltd. has invested substantial capital into the project.

“We’re proud to partner with Marriott International, Inc. to bring a new Renaissance Hotel to the airport and the region,” says Ali Meghji, director for Platinum Investments, Ltd. “The EIA’s expanded terminal is a chic, modern and uniquely luxurious addition. We feel that this new Renaissance Hotel will more accurately reflect the unique personality of this modern airport.”

Renaissance Hotels was acquired by Marriott International in 1997 and quickly became one of the most popular brands within the company’s portfolio. The brand’s inspiration – Live Life to Discover – places an emphasis on profiling local music, art, and entertainment through its signature RLife LIVE program, while also encouraging travellers to take the time to explore the hidden gems of the community through its NAVIGATOR program.

“Renaissance Hotels represents the perfect complement to the airport’s well known emphasis on the local community” says Myron Keehn, vice president of communications for the Edmonton International Airport. “EIA is proud to support the vibrant community of Edmonton through our partnership with Edmonton Tourism, as well as our efforts to offer local art and entertainment through our ‘Live All Year’ program. We’re thrilled to welcome this exciting new hotel project to Edmonton.”

From a construction perspective, the hotel will feature modular solid wall construction that virtually eliminates noise transfer between suites, from the hallways, and from the airfield. The windows feature triple glazed, argon filled bomb blast quality glass that will block any aircraft noise.

The hotel design will feature more functional public space similar in size to EIA’s new Central Hall for mingling, relaxing and gathering. The hotel will offer 213 rooms, including a presidential suite. Additionally, it will also offer 20,000 square feet of meeting and special event space.

RENAISSANCE HOTELS represents a diverse collection of more than 150 hotels in 35 countries worldwide. Each property is unique, offering passionate travelers a one-of-kind experience and memories they will be sure to take with them long after they depart. Within every hotel, guests are greeted by an exceptional array of amenities and an inspiring world of local discoveries. For travelers looking to experience something new, innovative and locally driven programs including the industry leading entertainment platform RLife LIVE as well R Navigator, ensure that every trip is transformed into an eye-opening, unforgettable journey.
