From July 2016, the Hotel Tahrir Square in Cairo will operate under the Steigenberger name. The existing Cecil Hotel in Alexandria will be taken over immediately. This latest expansion means that the number of Steigenberger establishments in the country will increase to seven, plus three luxury Nile ships.

The Steigenberger Hotel Tahrir Square will have a total of 295 rooms including 12 suites as well as five conference rooms and a large banqueting hall. A gym and beauty spa facilities provide guests with an ideal environment in which to stay fit and relax. The Steigenberger Cecil Hotel is an existing property located on the Mediterranean Coast. Its 86 rooms include three à la carte restaurants, three bars, meeting rooms and a gym.

Puneet Chhatwal, CEO of Steigenberger Hotels AG, believes that the two Management Agreements in Cairo and Alexandria represent an ideal vehicle for the continuation of the group's successful expansion strategy: "Following the signing of Management Agreements for projects in China, Doha and Dubai, the two major cities of Egypt are an ideal addition to our portfolio of hotels at attractive locations."

Owning company for Cairo property is HOTAC (Holding Company For Tourism, Hotels and Cinema) and for Alexandria is EGOTH (Egyptian General Company for Tourism and Hotels) that jointly own 23 historic hotels in Egypt.

Steigenberger Hotels AG is based in Frankfurt am Main and is one of Europe's leading hotel groups. Its portfolio currently contains 104 hotels in Germany, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Egypt, China, Dubai and Qatar, including 16 establishments that are under construction or in the planning phase. The umbrella brand Steigenberger Hotel Group includes the two brands Steigenberger Hotels and Resorts (individual First Class and Deluxe Hotels) and InterCityHotel (hotels in the upper mid-range category located in the direct vicinity of transport hubs such as railway stations and airports).
