The recruitment of the General Manager and
Director of Marketing for The Peninsula
Tokyo marks an exciting time in the
development of this new hotel. These two key
staff have in-depth knowledge of the luxury
hotel sector and will be working towards a
successful launch for this addition to The
Peninsula Hotels.

HSH Appoints General Manager for
The Peninsula Tokyo
he Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels
(HSH) has appointed Malcolm
Thompson as General Manager of The
Peninsula Tokyo. Mr Thompson will oversee
the pre-opening in September 2006, followed
by the full opening in 2007.
British-born, Mr Thompson is a graduate of
the University of London and New College
London. His 30-year career began in the food
and beverage division of Hyatt Kingsgate
Sydney in 1976. He moved through various
properties with the group around the region
and was awarded the highest accolade of
“General Manager of the Year” three times.
He was most recently General Manager of the
Park Hyatt in Los Angeles. He has also served
as Chairman of the Australian Capital
Territory Tourism Board during his time in
Australia from 1995 to 1997.
HSH CEO, Mr Clement Kwok, comments
“Malcolm Thompson has extensive experience
in the luxury hotel sector, and more
specifically in the Tokyo market. His knowledge of this market will be valuable in
the successful launch of The Peninsula
Tokyo.”.
The Peninsula Hotels Appoints Director
of Marketing for The Peninsula Tokyo
The Peninsula Tokyo announces the
appointment of Shin Asai as Director of
Marketing.
Mr Asai is a Bachelor of Science graduate of
the University of Denver, with a major in
Hotel and Restaurant Management. After
working in Colorado, USA and Alberta
Canada, he returned to his native Japan to join
Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo.
“We are confident that Mr Shin’s in-depth
knowledge of the Tokyo market will be a
significant benefit to our marketing
initiatives”, says General Manager, Malcolm
Thompson.
For the past 12 years, Mr Asai has worked for
the Four Seasons group in Japan and
Thailand, and with Canadian Pacific Hotels in
Canada. He speaks fluent English and
Japanese as well as some Thai and Spanish.
