Occidental Hotels & Resorts, a Spanish hotel chain with more than 25 resorts and more than 11,500 “All Inclusive” rooms in destinations such as the Canary Islands, Tunisia, Antigua, Aruba, Costa Rica, Cuba, Mexico or the Dominican Republic, has been reported on September 28, 2006 that it has been awarded as the Best “All Inclusive” Hotel Chain of the year.

The Travel Trade Gazette (TTG) is the leading weekly publication for the UK travel industry, widely recognised as the authority on matters affecting the UK’s tourism and travel sectors. Founded in 1953, TTG publishes in different areas such as Asia, Central Europe and Eastern Europe.

Winners have been made official on September 27, 2006 in a ceremony that took place at the Old Bilingsgate, in the presence of more than 1,200 persons. TTG announced that within the different categories that comprise recognitions to other companies of the sector, such as airlines, tour-operators…, Occidental Hotels & Resorts has been awarded as the Best “All Inclusive” Hotel Chain of the year. This is a very important award as all the TTG rewards are handed in after a thoroughgoing inquiry between more than 6,000 travel agents, 50 independent experts of the tourist sector, directors of the main tour-operators as well as journalists.

From its beginning in 1982, Occidental Hotels & Resorts, has shown an increasing evolution, becoming one of the largest chains not only on a nation-wide basis but also abroad. In the year 2000, with the acquisition of the American chain “Allegro Resorts”, Occidental Hotels & Resorts became the leading company regarding the hotel management of “All Inclusive” resorts, especially in the Caribbean where it occupies a primary position. Occidental Hotels & Resorts, specialised in “All Inclusive” holiday packages, has also been the first chain in introducing this system in the Canary Islands, opening in 2002 the first hotel, designed as an “All Inclusive” resort, where the experience obtained from the Occidental Hotels in the Caribbean will be used in the management of this hotel.
