Marilyn Carlson Nelson Recognized for Ethical Leadership Practices

Carlson Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Marilyn Carlson Nelson has been named one of the "100 Most Influential People in Business Ethics," by Ethisphere Magazine.
The list of honorees includes former U.S. Vice President Al Gore and California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, along with representatives from government and regulatory agencies, non-government organizations, news media outlets and educational institutions.
“This honor is significant to our company’s leader, who has set high ethical standards for Carlson, and to our employees, who are part of our culture of integrity, and work every day to make a positive difference for the people and communities we serve around the world,” said Carlson Chief Communications Officer Kim Olson.
Part of Carlson's corporate social responsibility initiative includes support of the World Childhood Foundation, which Carlson co-founded with other international corporations and the Queen of Sweden in 1999. The stated mission of Childhood is "to defend the rights of the child to a secure childhood and to work for better living conditions for children at risk all over the world." The organization's present focus is protecting children from being sexually abused, with special attention given to the situations of girls and teen-age mothers.
In addition to supporting Childhood, Carlson in 2004 became one of the first North American organizations to sign the ECPAT (End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography and the Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes) global code of conduct to protect children from commercial sexual exploitation.
Earlier in 2007, Carlson received a Corporate Social Responsibility Award from the Foreign Policy Association, and the Twin Cities International Citizen Awards’ International Corporate Award for corporate social responsibility, and global business development.
For the Ethisphere recognition, a group of ethics experts from major universities, including New York University, Pennsylvania State University, University of Delaware, and Arizona State University, submitted nominations and ranked individuals who influenced ethical behavior in global business. To evaluate nominations, the experts used nine categories including government and regulatory, business leadership, thought leadership and corporate culture.
