The O Property Collection (OPC) has enlisted seven internationally acclaimed architects and the award-winning operator Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group to create one of the world’s rarest living experiences on Dellis Cay, Turks and Caicos, in the British West Indies.

The 560-acre private island retreat, which opens late 2009, is being sculpted into a luxury hideaway with a hotel, residences and villas, divided into seven lifestyle areas. Each of these areas will be designed by a different master architect to honour the natural beauty of the island and will be serviced by the award-winning Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group. The commissioned architects include London-based Zaha Hadid and David Chipperfield, Piero Lissoni from Milan, Kengo Kuma and Shigeru Ban of Tokyo, Carl Ettensperger of Singapore and US-based Chad Oppenheim. This Caribbean hideaway will offer unparalleled opportunities for home ownership.

Master strategist and owner of the island, OPC chairman Dr Cem Kinay, says, “The impeccable architecture and design, together with the legendary service of Mandarin Oriental will ensure that Dellis Cay becomes one of the most exclusive destinations in the world.”

Phase One of the innovative project also includes 54 two- or three-bedroom beach house residences, which will be designed by Lissoni. These will be set over nine three-storey buildings, with two residences per floor and three-bedroom 2,000 square-foot duplex penthouses. Each residence will blend with the local environment, have expansive outdoor space with unobstructed views and enjoy the award-winning services of Mandarin Oriental.

Meanwhile, nestled on the south-eastern shores will sit Lissoni’s eight, five-bedroom, 3,850 square-foot beach villas, which will each boast more than 8,000 square feet of outdoor living space. Lissoni will also be responsible for nine secluded six-bedroom ocean villas on the opposite shore, which will be even bigger at 4,800 square foot, with an impressive 9,500 square foot of pool and garden area.

Future phases of the project will see the emergence of villa collections by the other architects. Kuma will create Dellis Cay’s lake villas with private spas; Ban will design a beach collection in the south with over-the-water annexes, while Ettensperger’s will be built over the water in their entirety. Chipperfield’s Shore villas will be on the north coast and Oppenheim will reach new heights with his tree-top village in the middle of the island, complete with suspended pool and star-gazing platform. Hadid, who has overseen the master plan of Dellis Cay, will be busy with, not only her own beachfront villas, but also commercial buildings housing restaurants and boutiques, and a marina planned for the cay’s eastern flank.

Most exciting of all perhaps is the ultra-exclusive collection of villas destined for the west beach. Each architect will design a masterpiece villa with six bedrooms and buyers will have the unique opportunity to choose one of the designs as their new home. Each will be set on a dedicated two-acre plot of land. Zaha Hadid’s west beach estate has already been released at an exclusive launch in New York City on January 18th, 2008.

The 122-room hotel will be located on an idyllic 35-acre beachfront on the scenic south-western shore of the island, surrounded by porcelain sands, sheltered reefs and protected mangrove reserves. Exceptional landscape design will be a major focus of the hideaway with infinity-edge swimming pools, sun decks, tennis courts, a beach club, a well-equipped reading library and resort boutiques. Also on the main floor, a choice of innovative cuisine will be featured at each of the four restaurants and bars in a variety of dining settings. The upper two floors will house 20 one- and two-bedroom suites and residences, while the roof will boast four exclusive three- or four-bedroom penthouses with private pools.

As with all Mandarin Oriental retreats, the dramatic and comprehensive Spa at Mandarin Oriental Dellis Cay, Turks and Caicos will focus on a holistic approach to wellness to soothe, restore and revitalise. Kuma has been commissioned to create the 30,000 square-foot spa, which will be built over a tranquil lake. The spa will feature 17 individual rooms and VIP couples’ suites, state-of-the-art heat and water treatments and an outdoor Watsu pool.

The Turks and Caicos Islands are located 575 miles south of Miami, Florida and comprise eight major islands and numerous uninhabited and protected cays. Featuring the third largest coral reef system in the world, the surrounding pristine waters are the playground of humpback whales, dolphins, turtles and manta rays and a haven for diving and snorkelling enthusiasts. Dellis Cay, adjacent to Parrot Cay, is accessible by private boat from the main international airport on Providenciales on the main island of Turks and Caicos. Direct flights are also available from Miami, New York, Boston, Charlotte, Phildelphia, Atlanta, Toronto and London.

O Property Collection will host a cocktail party for media and VIPs on May 15 at the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong to introduce Dellis Cay, while potential buyers can find out more at the two-day exhibition held in the Alexandra Room from May 16-17. Ownership opportunities are limited and begin at US$2 million. Dellis Cay is being marketed by Asia Pacific Properties in Hong Kong and sales enquiries can be directed towards +852 2281 7800.
