Take your annual vacation without spending extra bucks

If, like most Americans these days, you
have a lot less in the coffers put aside for vacations, you still shouldn't
be resigned to campouts in the backyard.

There are ways to enjoy a memorable vacation - a luxurious one, even -
without breaking the bank.

"When you figure out the tips and tricks to smart luxury travel,
affordable vacationing becomes realistic for most people, even during these
slower times for the economy," said Ben Tuff, Director of Sales and
Marketing for Luxury Retreats (http://www.luxuryretreats.com), a world leader in
high-end vacation rentals.

Tuff's number one trick of the trade? Take advantage of low season
savings. Most accommodations set rates thirty to fifty percent lower in the
off season - the summer in hot destinations like the Caribbean and ski
regions like the Alps, or the winter in temperate destinations like Italy
and Greece.

"If you travel at the book ends of these seasons, where the climate is
still nice, the savings can be incredible," said Tuff, "plus you get a much
more authentic experience without the high season crowds."

Other ways to score savings:

- Be flexible with your vacation plans: Consider a Tuesday-to-Tuesday
trip, which is the cheapest day to fly. Some villa rentals do not
accept anything other than Saturday-to-Saturday in the high season, but
are happy to fill weeks however they can when demand isn't as great.

- Do your research for value added: Some villa destinations almost always
include the services of a chef with your rental, whether it's a $5,000
per night home or $250 per night. Those places, like Barbados and
Jamaica, offer immediate savings on restaurant bills, which can really
rack up at the end of a week.

- Talk to locals: When it comes to finding the best deals, it's the
people who live there that really know best. Ask a local (your villa
staff, for example) for the best value restaurants and fun free
attractions.
With just a little planning, you can enjoy the same kind of luxury
vacation you did prior to the economic dip and rising gas prices.
