Paul S. Tormey, regional vice president, Northeast U.S. and Bermuda and general manager of The Fairmont Copley Plaza, is pleased to announce the promotion of Matthew Sterne to general manager at Fairmont Battery Wharf.
Mr. Sterne brings more than 12 years of experience with Fairmont Hotels & Resorts to this position. As general manager, Mr. Sterne will manage the grand opening and operation of Fairmont Battery Wharf, a new luxury hotel located on Boston’s waterfront, adjacent to the historic North End.
“Fairmont Battery Wharf is an exciting project, and I am delighted to be the opening general manager,” said Mr. Sterne. “Boston’s waterfront is such a vibrant part of the city, and I’m looking forward to exploring the neighborhood and introducing the hotel to the community.”
Prior to this position, Mr. Sterne was the hotel manager at The Fairmont Scottsdale, a five-diamond resort in Arizona. Before his position in Scottsdale, Mr. Sterne was the director of operations at The Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn and Spa in California. He began his career with the company at Fairmont Tremblant in Quebec where he held several progressive management positions before becoming director of operations.
“Matthew brings a wealth of service experience to his position at Fairmont Battery Wharf, particularly his most recent experience at one of Fairmont’s five-diamond resorts,” said Mr. Tormey. “Fairmont Battery Wharf will be an exclusive retreat and offer a variety of luxury services and amenities. The hotel, with its contemporary design and waterfront location, will be an excellent complement to The Fairmont Copley Plaza, an historic hotel located in Boston’s Back Bay.”
Mr. Sterne holds an MBA from Queens University in Kingston, Ontario, and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Concordia University in Montreal. He and his wife, Nancy, will reside in the Boston area with their two young children.
Set in a private enclave, Fairmont Battery Wharf will open in December 2008. Fairmont Battery Wharf will feature 150 elegantly appointed and contemporary guestrooms, including Fairmont Gold, the brand’s exclusive lifestyle offering featuring warm and personalized service with amenities such as private reception and a comfortable guest lounge. The hotel will offer 6,000 square feet of meeting space and a lounge and restaurant with harbor views.
