It’s no secret that business is down at hotels across the Washington, DC area and beyond due to an on-going recession. As hotels work double time to figure out how to get customers back in their doors, the Bethesda Marriott Suites has gone back to its roots—relationships—to bring customers back.

The hotel is readying for a “sales blitz” over a several day period in an effort to touch past and present local customers. Seven teams of two will be making personal visits to approximately 200 businesses to share information about all the Bethesda hotel has to offer, including its recent multi-million dollar renovation that transformed its lobby into an open, stylish, tech-friendly zone suitable for work or relaxing. The bar and fitness center were also part of this upgrade.

The goal of the sales team is to leave every office with a contact name and an understanding of the company’s business needs. The hotel wants to turn at least 30 percent of those visits into business, and grow that number over time.

“We want potential customers to know that we have a lot to offer, and if they haven’t been here in awhile, they’ve missed the exciting changes that have gone on that all add up to a great experience here at the Bethesda Marriott Suites,” said Keith McNeill, general manager at the hotel. “I think that this sales blitz will bring us back to the basics, which is doing business via personal relationships.”

Businesses receive an abundance of marketing materials about hotels, but making a lot of personal visits went out of vogue as the economy heated up; people got busier and hotel rooms were full. Now, with experts predicting the economy will remain stalled through the year, and businesses working desperately to cut costs, the Bethesda Marriott Suites is focusing on building new and maintaining their current relationships to help fill those empty rooms.
