Gatehouse Capital and Paige Sports Entertainment to Develop 136-Room Hotel

Dallas-based Gatehouse Capital Corp, announced today it has reached an agreement with a new equity partner, Paige Sports Entertainment of St. Louis, Missouri to construct a 136-room Aloft hotel in Jacksonville, Florida.

The Aloft hotel will be located in Tapestry Park, a mixed-use development encompassing retail, office space, town homes and apartments. Tapestry Park is part of the greater Deerwood Park submarket that boasts more than 10 million square feet of office space located ten miles southeast of downtown Jacksonville. Deerwood’s office tenants include a multitude of multinational corporations including one of Florida’s largest employers, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida and Merrill Lynch.

“This is an upscale select-serve product and we like the brand’s offerings relative to the Jacksonville market. By offering meeting space and comfortable accommodations at a reasonable price point, we will provide the right mix for Deerwood Park’s end user,” said Marty Collins, president and CEO of Gatehouse Capital. “Gatehouse Capital served on the advisory board at Starwood Hotels that created the original Aloft development plan, so we know the product very well.”

The Aloft hotel is slated to open during the summer of 2010 and will feature approximately 2,400 square feet of meeting space to accommodate guests. The meeting space will be housed in an attached annex building and will be divisible into two smaller, 1,200 square-foot spaces. The hotel will be operated under Starwood Hotel’s Aloft brand, which caters to a global audience of forward-looking consumers seeking a new and unique alternative in the select service market.

This is one of the first Aloft hotels pursuing LEED certification as outlined by the US Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Green Building Rating System™. The project will utilize water saving and energy efficient technologies with building materials and finishes containing high percentages of recycled content and low VOC’s. With environmentally responsible design and excellent indoor air quality, the employees and guests are assured a comfortable and healthy experience.

“This will be one of a few Starwood products in northeast Florida and we are proud to partner with Paige Sports Entertainment to bring a design inspired, select service hotel to one of the busiest intersections in Jacksonville,” continued Collins. “We are also pleased that during this economic dislocation, Gatehouse Capital and Paige Sports Entertainment will provide local job opportunities to the Jacksonville community by partnering with local consultants and contractors.”
