Hilton Sibiu welcomes first guests

Hilton Hotels Corporation has today announced the arrival of its second hotel in Romania with the opening of Hilton Sibiu. Formerly known as the Palace Resort & Spa, the property has recently completed an extensive refurbishment and renovation programme in preparation for its launch under the flagship Hilton brand. The hotel is operated as part of a franchise agreement with SC Palace Dumbrava SRL.

Commenting on the opening Simon Vincent, Area President Hilton Europe, said: “Hilton Sibiu is a welcome addition to our Romanian portfolio, joining our Hilton Athenee Palace in Bucharest. Having had a presence in the country since 1997 we are delighted to be adding such a great property, and are very much looking forward to welcoming international and domestic travellers to experience Hilton’s famous brand of hospitality.”

He adds: “Sibiu is a fascinating destination – it was named Europe’s Capital of Culture in 2007 and offers one of the best preserved medieval city centres on the continent. Its strategic location in the heart of the Transylvania makes it an important tourist and business hub, and we believe our flagship Hilton brand will prove to be a very successful fit for this market.”

Nicolae Minea, the owner of SC Palace Dumbrava SRL, commented: “Today marks a new chapter in the history of this fantastic property and we are delighted to be partnering with one of the world’s most recognised hotel brands. With Hilton’s global presence and experience, combined with our expertise and knowledge of operating in the local market, we are confident that Hilton Sibiu will continue to be the hotel of choice in the city”.

The hotel offers a total of 115 well appointed rooms, including 20 luxurious suites, all complete with private balconies or terraces overlooking the city’s picturesque Dumbrava forest. Rooms combine a blend of classic design and furniture with some of the latest in-room technology, such as high speed internet access and flat screen televisions.

With three full service restaurants to choose from, guests can enjoy a selection of dining options, ranging from fresh local Romanian cuisine and gourmet French fine dining to popular international dishes. The hotel’s charming lobby bar offers a cosy setting to relax and enjoy a section of refreshing beverages.

Enjoying a secluded position in the heart of the Dumbrava Forest, Hilton Sibiu’s state-of-the-art 2000 m² spa facility provides a perfect pampering retreat. With a total of 13 treatment rooms, the spa offers a complete range of holistic therapies. Other facilities include a 150m² indoor swimming pool, separate vitality pool, Finnish sauna, aroma sauna and steam bath, a Vichy shower, Cleopatra bath, relaxation and meditation rooms and a Hilton by Precor gym and fitness centre.

Hilton Sibiu is an ideal choice for those travelling on business, offering a 24-hour business centre, four fully equipped Hilton meeting rooms and a grand ballroom.

Hilton Sibiu becomes the tenth Hilton family hotel to open in Europe this year, following the arrival of new hotels in Paris, London, Palermo, Kosice, Chester, Corby, Dunblane, Reading and Dalaman. The company currently operates over 175 hotels in Europe across seven different brands, with a further 13 properties scheduled to open by the end of 2009.

Hilton Sibiu is located on 1st Padurea Dumbrava, Sibiu, 550399 Romania and room prices start from EUR 110 per room per night.
