Costa Smeralda on the Italian island of Sardinia in the Mediterranean has long been an insider hotspot for celebs and global jetsetters. Starwood’s Hotel Cala di Volpe, the crowning jewel of the Emerald Coast, hosted a concert with disco legend Donna Summer on July 25th, and UK R&B crooner Craig David will perform on August 13th. Although Costa Smeralda is very tight lipped about the celebrities that flock there, Donatella Versace and Princess Caroline of Monaco have been spotted at the Cala di Volpe Restaurant and the equally glamorous, if more intimate, Hotel Pitrizza. Geri Halliwell, Lionel Richie and Rob Lowe are fans as well, with Rob being seen jet skiing in the turquoise waters.
The everyday traveler may not have the name recognition or wallets to match, but below are a few fun pastimes one can dream of if we lived like a celebrity.
1. Rid Yourself of Those Pesky Tan Lines – If you’re a celebrity, a perfect tan is a must. Shop like its 2007: Costa Smeralda is a little-known shopping mecca, with all the designer boutiques one can imagine including Gucci, Prada, Armani, and Versace, located in the heart of Porto Cervo Village steps from a number of restaurants and nightlife options. To be close to all the action, guests choose to stay at the five-star Cervo Hotel overlooking the famous Piazzetta.
4. Dine at the famous Cala di Volpe Restaurant (“The Ivy” of Costa Smeralda) – Nibble on carb-less Saffron scented octopus terrine with raw vegetables and Nougat parfait with strawberry salad in balsamic vinegar sauce. Delish! Clients can also choose from a selection of more than 400 international and Italian wines from La Cave, the hotel’s prestigious wine cellar.
5. Celebrities Travel with their Kids Too: For the Jolie-Pitts of the world, kid facilities are crucial. The five-star Hotel Romazzino combines luxe accommodations with a dedicated Toy Club (kids’ program) open morning ‘til night with children’s menus available throughout the resort, allowing for some much needed “me” time.
