Korea’s Former State Guest House Gets a Facelift by World Renowned Designer Peter Remedios

– Special Meetings Package Celebrates Re-Opening –

South Korea’s premier hotel The Shilla Seoul has refurbished its famous Yeong Bin Gwan – a Korean-style banquet annex - to create the most prestigious wedding, banquet and events venue in the capital.

The traditional two-storey Korean mansion, surrounding an inner courtyard in the manicured grounds of the hotel, is newly restyled by world renowned designer Peter Remedios.

It now spectacularly reopens as the venue for prestigious events and high-profile weddings such as the recent nuptials of Korean movie stars Mr Jang Dong Gun and Ms Go So Young.

To celebrate the new look Yeong Bin Gwan, a special Business Meeting/Conference Package is now available. Priced at US$190 per person for a minimum of 15 delegates, it includes overnight accommodation at The Shilla in a Superior Room with conference facilities and amenities for the day, coffee breaks and lunch. For delegates not staying at The Shilla, the price is US$60. Tax and VAT are not included.

Reflecting the magnificence and sophistication of royal-style Korean architecture, the Yeong Bin Gwan was originally built in 1967 to host foreign state guests. During its five years as South Korea’s official state guest house, it hosted nearly 40 heads of state from around the world including kings, presidents, prime ministers and an emperor [Haile Selassie of Ethiopia].

Following a brief period as a wedding hall, Yeong Bin Gwan subsequently became the site for the Hotel Shilla – which opened in 1973 as the city’s grandest 5-star hotel.

The magnificently colourful building is now refurbished with a contemporary interior design and state of the art banquet facilities, and ready once again to host prestigious weddings, banquets, meetings, conventions, exhibitions and memorable events of all types.

Three separate venues as well as the inner courtyard and external garden are available either separately, accommodating as few as 120 guests, or combined for grand events with over a thousand guests.

On each side of the courtyard, the Ruby and Topaz rooms are now more spacious and modern with unique architecture inspired by Korean traditional beauty, seating up to 150 for weddings, and over 200 for receptions.

The Emerald room features stunning contemporary design, created from natural materials in traditional Korean ‘cross stripe’ patterns.

The elegant second-floor banquet area seats up to 120 for banquets or accommodates up to 200 for receptions and is accessed by 'floating concept' stairs.

It is directly linked to a vast external garden that can accommodate garden parties for over a thousand additional guests,

The traditionally-paved, courtyard style Internal Garden is refurbished with eco-friendly materials including water, stones and trees. Intimately designed for private 'house weddings' for up to 260, or receptions for 400, the open-air venue can even be used in unpleasant weather – sheltered by roof-high drapery.

In the world of luxury hotels, The Shilla is a legendary leader in South Korea, uniquely set amid 23 acres of private wooded parkland in the city centre.

A member of The Leading Hotels of the World, the 5-star hotel graciously combines authentic Korean charm with modern, world-class luxury and state-of-the-art communications, and is the favoured address in Seoul for royalty, heads of state, dignitaries, celebrities, leaders and decision makers.

The Shilla Seoul is consistently recognised as South Korea’s top hotel in international awards from Condé Nast Traveler and Travel & Leisure to Institutional Investor and Euromoney.

The "lifestyle destination" includes one of only two L’Institut de Guerlain spas in Asia and the world renowned anti-aging La Clinique de Paris -- along with a dermatology clinic, dental clinic and oriental medicine consultancy.

A prestigious shopping arcade showcases over 20 world-famous brand name boutiques and high profile Korean labels.

Included in the star-studded lineup is famed 'florist to the stars' Paula Pryke. Her 'one stop shop' for fabulous weddings twins floral arrangements with gowns by celebrity New York-based designer Vera Wang.

The Shilla’s grand ballroom, Dynasty Hall, is also a venue for numerous high profile international gatherings.
