A unique ‘condominium hotel’ development in Japan’s skiing and snowboarding mecca famous for some of the world’s most pristine powder snow has attracted keen interest from Hong Kong investors.

Hong Kong-based Summit Properties unveiled the first phase of ‘The Rocks Niseko Resort’, a ‘first of its kind’ concept in Niseko, at the Landmark Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Hong Kong on January 18-19.

“The showcase resulted in five apartments being immediately reserved with eighteen more under negotiation, and was a great success with over 100 visitors over the two days” said John Barton, Sales Executive for marketing agents, Meikle and Associates Real Estate.

“The interested clients were very high quality with a high degree of knowledge about Niseko and property investment, and all recognised the enormous potential of this prestige hotel/condominium project in an unrivalled ski in/ski out location.” he added.

Discussions continue with the numerous other interested parties, many intending to visit Niseko for the upcoming Lunar New Year holidays.

Townhouses and penthouses in ‘The Rocks - Edge’ - the smaller of the two The Rocks developments - are scheduled for completion in the centre of the quaint alpine village of Hirafu by the end of 2011.

The Rocks – Edge is located in the heart of Hirafu amid fashionable restaurants, bars and cafés including an exotic ice bar; designer pubs with renowned DJs and an elegant Asian fusion restaurant.

The Rocks Niseko Resort (www.therocksniseko.com) envisages second and more substantial ‘ski-in, ski-out’ development in the Upper Village, offering doorstep access to the celebrated ski-fields.

On Japan’s northern island of Hokkaido, Niseko is defined by its light and dry snow, termed champagne powder. The powder ski fields are ranked number 2 in the world by Forbes Magazine, ahead of Whistler, Chamonix and Aspen.

Cutting-edge design by award-winning Riccardo Tossani Architecture creates a unique 4-season lifestyle resort where natural ecosystems, gardens, recreational spaces and architectural structures are all inextricably united in an alpine National Park setting

“The Rocks is inspired by the dramatic mountain beauty of Niseko, natural charm of the Hokkaido seasons and the sublime and elegant culture of Japan,” said Summit Properties spokesman Lucas Fuller.

“The Rocks will be an iconic development and the first of its kind, setting standards of service and breadth of facilities not seen in the village before. The combination of its unique National Park location providing stunning views with an ease of skier access not achieved by any other Niseko condominium development to date is unmatched.”

About Niseko
Niseko is defined by its light and dry snow, termed champagne powder. The powder ski fields are ranked number 2 in the world in term of snowfall by Forbes Magazine, ahead of Whistler, Chamonix and Aspen.

Its ski fields feature 57 runs over 47kms, with the longest of 5.6km, served by 37 lifts.

Unusually for Japan, Niseko also permits off-piste skiing through a controlled gate system providing access to hundreds of acres of pure powder joy.

Amongst locals and those in the know, Niseko is equally renowned for its distinctive four seasons – each bringing variety and alternative outdoor options for the whole family.
When the snow thaws in spring, the fishing season begins and golf beckon, with nine world-class mountain courses within a 30 minute drive.

Summer is a season for flower festivals, hiking in crisp air of the alpine pastures and mountain biking down specially developed trails. Autumn is a kaleidoscope of gold, yellows, reds and browns as leaves change colour.

Getting to Niseko
Niseko is well served by international direct flights from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea via New Chitose International Airport in Sapporo, two hours (100km) away by car or train, or 30 minutes by helicopter. Domestic flights connect with all major Japanese cities including Tokyo’s Narita and Haneda airports.
