The new look of the legendary lobby designed by Pierre-Yves Rochon.

A highly prestigious symbol since its inauguration in 1864, the Hôtel de Paris has always succeeded in preserving its splendid Belle Époque architecture whilst cultivating a youthful outlook and a great capacity to adapt to all things modern. This renovation is in perfect harmony with the gilding and marble of yesteryear.

Pierre-Yves Rochon, the Groupe SBM’s signature designer who created the Monte-Carlo Bay and the new decor at the Hôtel Hermitage wanted to restore the hotel’s original look down to the smallest detail.

Bernard Lambert, CEO of Monte-Carlo SBM group says: “This renovation of the Lobby is part of the ongoing restoration work taking place in this mythical luxury hotel. Recently, bedrooms were renovated in the Alice and Beaux-Arts wings. Today, we are delighted to reveal the Lobby’s new face which, without a doubt, glorifies the very history of the place.”

Painters have highlighted the original architecture by breathing new life into the “modes et natures” on the ceilings thanks to a biscuit-style treatment. This is how, today, we rediscover the relief and patterns in staff, and catch a glimpse of sirens and assorted fish.

The entire lobby has been repainted in stone tones in order to draw attention to the immense central glass roof. All the marble and wood panelling have been restored completely. The marble masons have preserved the original patina and slabs; however, for those that needed to be replaced, they have used the existing tones. In fact, it was these very hues that influenced the designer when thinking up the new decor.

The shades – terracotta, grey, stone and black — are featured in the brand new furniture. The most outstanding piece is an immense and elegant beige banquette, a creation which just invites you to sit on it and constitutes a delightful link to the American Bar.
The rest of the furniture is in mahogany to match the original woodwork. Two huge handmade Chinese lacquer screens are placed strategically in order to define the space.

The original chandeliers and wall lights have been restored. Together with the huge bouquet of flowers, they are highly symbolic and guests are very attached to them. The side mirrors have been kept and continue to add splendour and depth to this imposing entrance hall.

This fabulous heritage is further enhanced by the lighting effects designed by a top English lighting specialist. Having completely overhauled the lights, he has created something almost theatrical. Of variable intensity, the lighting can be modified according to the seasons and events.

A superb and immense classical-style floral carpet is adding the finishing touch to this highly successful revamp. It also complements perfectly the wonderfully convivial yet flamboyant ambience worthy of the very magic of the hotel.
