Matthew Hart Appointed Vice President & Managing Director

KSL Resorts, the independent luxury resort management company, has announced that it has taken over management of Montelucia Resort & Spa from InterContinental Hotels & Resorts. KSL Capital Partners acquired the resort from a syndicate of banks that had foreclosed on the property. The 293-room Montelucia Resort & Spa opened in 2008 and is located in Scottsdale, Arizona, set on 35 acres in the foothills of Camelback Mountain. The stunning Andalusian-inspired design, extensive leisure, event and meetings facilities, coupled with the expansive Joya Spa and award-winning Prado restaurant, makes this a perfect addition to the KSL Resorts portfolio, which includes La Costa Resort & Spa, Hotel del Coronado, Beach Village at the Del, Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa, Barton Creek Resort & Spa, Vail Mountain Lodge & Spa, and The Homestead.

“One of our major objectives over the past few years was to re-enter the Arizona market with a marquis resort,” said Scott Delacio, president and CEO of KSL Resorts. “We have had a long history in the Phoenix area managing The Arizona Biltmore from 2000 to 2006. We know this market well and believe KSL Resorts management will benefit the resort in its efforts to reach its full potential. Montelucia Resort is a beautiful property and we are honored to be the stewards of yet another one-of-a-kind resort.”

KSL Resorts has tapped company veteran Matthew Hart to be vice president & managing director for the resort. Hart has been successful in repositioning, streamlining and improving resort operations wherever he’s worked. Hart has an impressive resumé that features a 30-year career in hotel and resort management. He spent 12 years with Westin Hotels and Resorts (now Starwood), most notably as the area general manager for the Westin Maui and the Kapalua Bay Hotel. In 1999, Hart was named a partner in MTM Hotels and Resorts, a regional operator of luxury hotels in the Northwest. In 2001, Castle & Cooke Resorts recruited Hart to lead the Resort Division for its Island of Lana‘i operation as executive vice president of resorts. In 2005 he joined KSL Resorts as the vice president & general manager of the Grand Wailea Resort & Spa where he oversaw all daily operations of the 40-acre, 780-room resort fronting beautiful Wailea Beach. In his most recent position with KSL, Hart has served as regional director of operations based in Carlsbad, Calif. where he has overseen operations for KSL Resorts’ western resorts.

“We anticipate a very smooth transition as we begin working with the very talented staff at Montelucia,” said Hart.

Montelucia is a perfect addition to the KSL Resorts portfolio, sharing many characteristics that make KSL Resorts properties so special. A prime location, impressive spa, extensive facilities for meetings and events, memorable dining options and leisure activities, set on acres of sprawling grounds are all hallmarks of KSL Resorts.

“We know that our loyal customers will love Montelucia Resort & Spa,” said Arthur Berg, Vice President of Marketing for KSL Resorts. “They know what to expect of the resorts in our collection, and because they are largely based on the West Coast or prefer to vacation in our warm-weather destinations, we believe there will be great synergy.”

While KSL Resorts now manages the resort, Montelucia will be designated An InterContinental Alliance Resort, a special marketing relationship. The resort will continue to welcome guests of the InterContinental family, including participants of their Priority Club Rewards and Ambassador Programs.
