The University Plaza Hotel and Convention Center, located in the heart of downtown Springfield, Mo., announces construction will kick off July 1 on the hotel’s new on-site, full-service day spa to be operated by Grove Spa. Set to open in September of this year, the 1,100-square-foot facility will be Grove Spa’s second Springfield location, will reside on the hotel’s main floor, and will offer signature spa services including massages, facials, manicures, pedicures, makeup services and relaxation. Located at 333 S. John Q. Hammons Parkway, the University Plaza Hotel and Convention Center is owned and operated by Springfield-based John Q. Hammons Hotels & Resorts, the largest private, independent owner and manager of hotels in the United States. The company also operates the Springfield Expo Center.

“Soon our guests will be able to enhance their exceptional hotel stay with a luxurious and relaxing experience synonymous with the legendary Grove Spa name,” said Robert Henley, University Plaza Hotel and Convention Center general manager. “We’re also planning to offer dine and relax packages as the go-to spot for locals to lunch and renew with family and friends.”

Rejuvenate From Head to Toe

Expected to feature a classic motif in soothing shades of gold, brown and green, the Grove Spa at University Plaza Hotel will accommodate individuals and groups, including walk-ins and appointments. The self-contained facility will include three massage/skincare rooms, four pedicure stations, and three manicure stations. A full menu of luxurious skin, body treatments and makeovers will be offered that relax, refresh and rejuvenate guests from head to toe.

“Our collaboration with University Plaza Hotel will enable us to accommodate sizeable groups by constructing a larger manicure and pedicure lounge and utilizing the hotel’s facilities for parties,” said Haden Long, Grove Spa director. “We plan to cater to bachelorettes, brides, Expo meetings, and other spa groups looking for a unique and relaxing experience.”

Hotel Atrium Gets a “Light” Makeover

In addition to the spa construction, a makeover is in progress with the University Plaza Hotel and Convention Center’s open-air atrium, which serves as a summer hot spot for live events in Springfield. In June, guests will begin to notice cosmetic changes, including new skylights that comprise nearly half of the atrium’s ceiling. The new, eco-friendly skylights will significantly reduce energy costs and enhance atrium ambiance with softer light. In July, the extensive atrium greenery will be replaced with a more modern motif, including attractive ornamental grasses and black river rock.
