Eventful historyThe Nemzeti was originally the Hotel Rémi (the Rémi family owned it). It opened in 1896, the year that Hungary celebrated the 1,000th anniversary of the year the Magyars took over the country.
The Rémi was a posh hotel that Hungary’s high society enjoyed. It was sold and renamed Nemzeti in 1929, and its roots in Budapest’s cultural life deepened further.
