It’s a feeling that’s equal parts terrifying and exhilarating, and for some people it is the ultimate escape. So if your idea of heaven is four feet of fresh powder, join Design Hotels on a tour of these cool escapes.

Hotel Zhero – Ischgl/Kappl, Austria

Just a few kilometers away from Ischgl (located in the Tyrolean Alps), Hotel Zhero – Ischgl/Kappl is right next to one of the largest ski resorts in the world. Over 238 kms of perfectly groomed pistes await guests at this five-star luxury hotel. Glass, wood, and stone blend into modern lines, creating a subtle ambience in each of the 79 rooms and suites. Its shimmering façade reflects the natural splendor around it, making a striking visual impression, while top brands like Minotti and Bottega Veneta make up the furnishings.

Nira Alpina, St. Moritz, Switzerland

Imagine waking up in a hotel bed and 30 minutes later you’re on top of Corvatsch, a 3,300 meter tall mountain that is said to have the best slopes in St. Moritz. Fantasy becomes reality at the Nira Alpina in Silvaplana, where guests staying in any of the 70 exquisitely appointed rooms are on the doorstep of some of the best skiing in the Swiss Alps. Offering the only true ski-in, ski-out experience in St. Moritz, this hotel’s private access to the peaks guarantees guests will be able to hit fresh powder well before the crowds.

Les Hôtels d’en Haut, Val Thorens/Courchevel, France

With three hotels located in Courchevel and Val Thorens, two of the French Alps' premier ski destinations, Les Hôtels d’en Haut spoils guests with choice. From the highest ski resort in Europe to one of the oldest and most revered, this collection of hotels fits the bill for even the most ardent snow-seekers, with each located at the heart of their respective resorts. Hôtel des Trois Vallées has 31 bedrooms and a 50’s pioneer spirit, Le Fitz Roy boasts 58 rooms and a large open fireplace, while Le Val Thorens has 83 rooms, a 15m pool and panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. These new takes on chalet classics have all been updated with decidedly modern design while still retaining all of the authentic charm of yesteryear.

Copperhill Mountain Lodge, Åre, Sweden

Created by world-renowned architect Peter Bohlin (of Apple store fame), the Copperhill Mountain Lodge in Åre is made up of 112 rooms and suites. Filled with warm colors and comfortable furniture, this comprehensive resort located 730 meters above sea level in Scandinavia’s largest alpine ski area has something for everyone.
