Theo Randall, until recently partner and head chef at London’s critically acclaimed The River Café, opened his own restaurant at the newly refurbished InterContinental London Park Lane on 6th November 2006. (The group’s flagship hotel, which overlooks Hyde Park and Green Park, has undergone a sixty million pound refurbishment over the last twelve months).

Theo Randall at The InterContinental will offer Theo’s interpretation of regional Italian cuisine, which he honed during his time at The River Café. Theo joined Ruth Rogers and Rose Gray in 1989, when the restaurant was only two years old. A year later, he went on a twelve month sabbatical to work at Alice Waters’ Chez Panisse in Berkeley, California (a restaurant he revisits frequently), before returning to The River Café where he worked for the last ten years as head chef. It was under Theo’s direction that the River Café won its first Michelin Star and critical acclaim from all the major critics who have described it ‘a place of pilgrimage’1 which has ‘changed Britain’s restaurant culture for good.’2 As head chef, Theo was responsible not simply for the day to day running of the restaurant but also for the development of many of its signature dishes.

Theo Randall at The InterContinental will be a typically welcoming affair – the restaurant, which will seat 124 diners, has been designed to promote flexible dining and includes a bar for up to 20 people. According to Theo the restaurant will be “a place where people can drop in for a drink with friends and end up staying to eat in the bar, or come for a more formal business lunch or four course dinner. I love the fact that both The River Café and Chez Panisse serve exquisite food but in a very relaxed, inviting environment, and I’m looking forward to offering this approach at The InterContinental.” Now, with Theo Randall at The InterContinental, diners will finally be able to put a name to the talent in the kitchen.
