Indian Hotels Company’s (IHCL) iconic brand, Taj, today announced the opening of Taj Chia Kutir Resort & Spa, Darjeeling in the state of West Bengal. The resort is situated in the world renowned Makaibari Tea Estate, founded in 1859, and home to the world’s first tea factory.

Mr. Puneet Chhatwal, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, The Indian Hotels Company, said, “IHCL with its pioneering spirit has put many destinations like Rajasthan, Goa and Kerala on the tourism map. We are delighted to step into another new destination in the East – Darjeeling. Taj Chia Kutir & Resort is a welcome addition to our existing hotels in the magnificent Himalayas.”

Nestled amidst sun-kissed tea gardens, Taj Chia Kutir Resort & Spa is spread over 22 acres. The 72-room resort, often enveloped in mist, has panoramic views of the rolling hills. The design is inspired by the meandering tea terraces and blends with nature.

The culinary choices include The Chia Veranda, the all-day diner, perched in the natural surrounding serving world cuisine. Sonargaon, the fine dining restaurant, offers North West frontier, Punjabi and Bengali cuisines. Guests can enjoy an elaborate high tea and tea tasting session with the Tea Sommelier at the charming Makaibari Tea Lounge. The elegant all-glass bar offers enchanting views of the tea gardens.

Taj Chia Kutir, the luxurious haven in the Himalayas, offers many immersive destination experiences. Guests can enjoy plucking and tasting tea at the Makaibari Tea Estate or nature trails with naturalists in the hills. We look forward to bringing Taj’s legendary hospitality to the Queen of Hills,” stated Mr. Jitendra Lote, General Manager, Taj Chia Kutir Resort & Spa, Darjeeling.

Flanked by hilly slopes, the resort is an ideal destination for elegant events and intimate social gatherings. It will also offer signature therapies and treatments from Jiva; our spa brand deeply rooted in Indian traditions of healing.

Darjeeling, with its sweeping vistas of the Himalayas, towered over by the majestic Kangchenjunga, is a picturesque Indian hill station.

With the addition of this hotel, IHCL will have six hotels in West Bengal including three under development.
