Disney's Hollywood Hotel wins the Best Themed Hotel in China

Wing T. Chao explains the development strategy of Hong Kong Disneyland's themed hotels

Disney's Hollywood Hotel won the Best Themed Hotel in China at the 2007 China Hotel Industry Summit Meeting and Award Ceremony today, became the highlight of the hotel industry.

The ceremony, jointly organized by Business Chamber of International Investment and management, China Association for Promoting International Economic & Technical Cooperation, World Entrepreneur Magazine and China Hotel Industry Summit Meeting and Award Ceremony Organizing Committee, was held at the Great Hall of People in Beijing on 8 April, 2007. Senior executives from China National Development and Reform Commission, China National Tourism Administration, China Tourism Association, Hong Kong and worldwide renowned hotels joined the event.

Wing T. Chao, Vice Chairman - Asia Pacific Development, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts and Chairman of Hong Kong International Theme Parks Limited Board, received the award on behalf of Disney's Hollywood Hotel in the ceremony. Chao was named one of the "20 most outstanding hotel leaders and innovators" by Hospitality Design magazine. "Hong Kong Disneyland strives to strengthen the competitive advantages in discrepancies, blending factors like cultural features, geographic characteristics together as a vivid theme to the hotels' infrastructures, operations and services." Chao shared with the media after the ceremony.

"Concept and business model of Disney's Hollywood Hotel, which wins Best Themed Hotel in China are recognized by the hotel industry. Disney's Hollywood Hotel and Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel will continue show their own uniqueness, not only communicate the Disney history and culture to each guest, but also drive the positive and harmonious development of hotel industry in China." Chao added.

Chao, who is also a talent for urban planning, holds bachelor's of architecture degrees from the University of California, Berkeley; and Harvard. For more that 30 years, he has played a pivotal part in developing and implementing projects worth over $8 billion, including 36,000 hotel rooms, 180 restaurants, 2 million square feet of retail space, 3 million square-feet of entertainment venues, etc. He also oversaw the design of the two themed, 83,000-ton Disney cruise ships and was involved in planning and building of Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Resort Paris. Chao has been active in studying the potential for future Disney park and resort projects in Asia, including the site selection for Hong Kong Disneyland with intensive experience.

Disney's Hollywood Hotel which has been opened since September, 2005, is a part of the overall planning of the first Disney theme park in China – Hong Kong Disneyland. Designed in Hollywood style, it carries on the Disney history and culture that were created for 80 years, fusing with the features of the golden age of movies.

Based on this theme, Disney's Hollywood Hotel has pedestrian walkways which are modeled after Hollywood walkways, Studio Lounge and Chef Mickey, etc. Special guestroom touches such as Bedtime TV stories, Wake-up calls from Mickey Mouse are provided. The Hotel begins with the facilities and services, allowing guests to enjoy the charm of Disney's Hollywood Hotel and Disney Difference from every detail by corresponding to the theme.
