Hotel Okura Co., Ltd. is pleased to announce that in January 2022 it will open the Hotel Okura Kyoto Okazaki Bettei in the world-famous and much-loved city of Kyoto, Japan’s ancient capital.

The company has contracted with Mitsubishi Estate Co., Ltd. to manage the new property.

The new hotel will offer 60 guest rooms ranging from 40 square meters in size, including eight 80-square meter suite rooms in the theme of a mountain villa.

It will be located near the historic Okazaki Betsuin Temple, overlooking the rich natural environment of the temple grounds, with the suites and some other rooms offering guests changing views of the seasonal scenery in its Japanese gardens.

The hotel will also feature a restaurant on the first floor with large windows allowing guests to enjoy similar views; there will also be a lounge and a fitness center.

The interior of the hotel is being designed by "GO ON"―a project team comprising six young inheritors of traditional Kyoto craft skills who came together in 2012 to promote these.

Hotel Okura Kyoto Okazaki Bettei will overlook Marutamachi Dori in the Rakuto and Okazaki areas of Kyoto, close to many of the city’s famous sightseeing spots, with the Heian Shrine, Nanzenji Temple and Kyoto City Zoo all nearby.

In addition, the Okazaki area is known for its culture and art and contains many museums and other cultural facilities where guests can enjoy exhibitions of a wide variety of art and traditional craft products from Kyoto as well as Noh theater performances.

Readers of the leading global travel magazine Condé Nast Traveler ranked Kyoto the world’s best large city in a 2020 poll, calling it “one of the most well-preserved cities in Japan”.

Toshihiro Ogita, President, Hotel Okura Co., Ltd., commented, “We are delighted to be opening a new hotel in Kyoto, a city that was ranked one of the world's most attractive cities in 2020. Kyoto continues to attract a great deal of attention from people around the world. As one of the leading hotel groups in Japan, we will welcome guests from all over the world in the post-COVID era with the sophisticated hospitality that only a small luxury hotel can offer.”

Coinciding with the opening of Hotel Okura Kyoto Okazaki Bettei in 2022, Kyoto Hotel Okura, with which the Hotel Okura Co., Ltd. has had a business alliance since 2001, will change its name to Hotel Okura Kyoto. From January 2022, the Hotel Okura Co., Ltd. will thereby operate two Hotel Okura-branded properties in Kyoto.

Hotel Okura Kyoto, located in the center of Kyoto, will continue to provide services as a grand hotel integrating accommodation, banqueting and restaurant facilities. Hotel Okura Kyoto Okazaki Bettei, located in a quiet area surrounded by many historic sites and cultural and artistic attractions, will provide services as a small luxury hotel, reminiscent of a retreat in harmony with the nature of Kyoto.

Hotel Okura will continue to offer its customers a variety of styles of accommodation in Kyoto—one of Japan's most popular tourist destinations—in harmony with the characteristics of each area.
