During this period the hotel has carried out improvements in the technical facilities to be fully prepared to welcome guests again.Prior to the pandemic and since its inauguration back in 1953, InterContinental Madrid had never closed its doors to the public until March 2020.

Now, Paloma Martínez, General Manager at this iconic hotel, announces its reopening on August 23rd.

As always, safety is a top priority for the hotel it is for this reason that strict hygiene procedures have been implemented for a Covid-free environment in parallel with the 5-Star service that over the years has made the hotel worthy of numerous awards, the most recent being chosen in 2020 as the best hotel in Spain for group business travellers by the prestigious World Travel Awards.

Hotel services have been adapted to comply with the regulations set by the Spanish Government and with the high standards required by the international hotel brand IHG to which the hotel belongs. For the redesign of its safety and hygiene protocols, IHG has relied on Cleveland Clinic, a group of health centres whose medical programs have been rated number one in the United States.

The hotel’s 302 rooms and suites are a refuge for each of our guest during their stay, and now, more than ever, InterContinental Madrid follows a meticulous cleaning process including daily disinfection and sanitation.

Occupancy of the same room will have a 24-hour interval, and items such as notepads, pens, magazines, and directories have been removed from the rooms to eliminate contact risk, although all of them are still available upon request.

Prior to the reopening, the hotel team has followed an intensive period of training and has meticulously reviewed all facilities and services. It is already planned that it’s 250 employees will join the team gradually as demand increases.

As Ms. Martínez confirms:We already have reservations, and the first ones to correspond to our most regular guests who have shown their unconditional support during this time and to whom we are very grateful for being with us in this reopening stage that we are all so excited about”. It was the Spanish guests who have led the recovery of the tourism in Madrid, traveling both for business and for leisure getaways to the capital. But we are also expecting the arrival of international guests who, adapting their travel protocols to existing measures, see in Madrid as a safe destination with increasingly positive possibilities”.

In addition to the gradually growing demand for accommodation, the local market has once again shown its loyalty to InterContinental Madrid with numerous requests for social and corporate events, not only in its emblematic meeting spaces but also in its garden, that has become an oasis of fresh air in the heart of Madrid for visitors.

With regards to the gastronomic offer at the hotel, the service has adapted to maintain social distancing and reduce physical contact with digital menus and continuous high quality air filtration to ensure a clean and hygienic environment. The renowned Sunday Brunch is again highly demanded with over 200 gastronomic references, and the first dates are almost ready to hang the “sold-out” sign.

The hotel is very much looking forward to welcoming guests from the diplomatic, corporate and leisure sectors from its iconic revolving door.
