Singapore Main-Board listed Banyan Tree Holdings Limited (“Banyan Tree” or the “Group”), a leading developer, designer and operator of top-tier hotels, resorts, spas and galleries worldwide, today announced that it has signed a new management contract in the Republic of Mauritius, located in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Africa.
This will be the first project for the Group in Mauritius, an unforgettable and dramatic tropical paradise also known as L'Île Maurice. This follows on earlier announcements in the year on management deals in China and Mexico and its recently announced management deal in Bodrum, Turkey. “Banyan Tree has always enjoyed a strong presence in the Indian Ocean as a premier operator of top end resorts and residences. This project further entrenches our pole position in the region and enhances our ability to continue to provide our guests with exclusive getaways in the most exotic surroundings,” said Executive Chairman, Mr Ho Kwon Ping.
Banyan Tree in Le Morne, Mauritius
In collaboration with Tatorio Holdings Limited, a subsidiary of Greenoak Holdings Limited, Banyan Tree will manage its first luxury resort property in Mauritius. Located in the picturesque Le Morne area of Mauritius, the development will consist of a 60-key pool villa resort and 110 units of Banyan Tree branded residences, all of which are architecturally designed by Fosters & Partners from the United Kingdom, with the resort villas designed in collaboration with Architrave Design & Planning, the in-house design division of Banyan Tree.
The project will also feature a Gary Player designed golf course and a golf club with full facilities for its residents and guests. The first phase of the project will be launched with the start of the sales of the branded residences this October. The resort is projected to be completed in 2010.
Set on one of the pristine coastal stretches of the island, the site is notable for its spectacular coral reef and the dramatic backdrop of Le Morne Brabant – a mythical volcanic rock that rises above the gleaming seascape and current UNESCO World Heritage Site candidate. The resort’s discreet and environmentally intelligent design comprises villas built with natural volcanic rock, renewable and natural timber, and Mauritian textiles.
This new development is not expected to have any material financial impact on the Group’s earnings and its net tangible assets for 2007.
