JOB DESCRIPTION
SCOPE AND PURPOSE:

The Human Resources Director is responsible for the short and long-term planning and management of the Human Resources and Learning & Development function in Belmond La Samanna and ensures consistency of approach in Compensation & Benefits, Staffing, Learning & Development and ongoing issues related to the business units and labour relations.

Working in a matrix structure with multiple stakeholders, the Human Resources Director will work with the executive committee and business unit teams to execute on HR strategies and initiatives to achieve and maintain Belmond’s strategic objectives and plan. The Human Resources Director promotes a strong collaboration between Belmond La Samanna and the local communities on St Martin.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

HR Strategy, Leadership and Coordination

  • Responsible for planning, implementing, and directing HR programs and projects to align with global HR initiatives and objectives
  • Prepare and manage the resort’s HR budget and ensure fiscal management of expenses within the approved budget
  • Ensure an up-to-date knowledge of industry developments, and monitor current trends, practices and systems to make recommendations for improvements
  • Provide quarterly information and reports on data such as staff turnover, stability etc.
  • Attend the resorts meetings as required
  • Organize employee engagement events and activities
  • Build up a strong network with other local HR professionals, labour department, work council, tourism board etc.
Compensation & Benefits

  • Responsible for the wage/salary structure and pay practices/policies
  • Oversee and manage pay systems within the resort including bonuses and salary increases; monitor pay systems for effectiveness and cost containment
  • Lead competitive market research to establish pay practices and pay bands that help to recruit and retain superior staff
  • Ensure legal compliance with current applicable legislation regarding minimum wage, overtime, working hours etc.
Staffing

  • Establish and lead the recruiting and hiring practices and procedures necessary to recruit, hire and retain the resort’s workforce
  • Manage the recruitment of all level candidat(e)s
  • Support the company talent frameworks including performance management, succession planning etc.
Employee Relations & Compliance

  • Be the first point of contact for all employees at the resort
  • Handle employee relations and compliance issues including SpeakUp investigations and other employee issues
  • Assure compliance with various governmental regulations and stay informed of current local legislation that impact employees and employers
  • Ensure HR Audits are completed, and outstanding issues are addressed and aligned on with Finance
  • Ensure compliance with brand guidelines, brand service culture guidelines, etc

PROFILE
The ideal candidat(e) will have:

  • Experience in a similar Leadership role in HR for a minimum of 5 years, preferably in the hospitality industry
  • Experience within an international luxury chain is highly desirable
  • HR experience in the Caribbean (desirable)
  • Expert knowledge of Human Resources laws, French labour law, labour unions, policies/procedures
  • Strong skills in negotiation, delegation, influencing, conflict resolution, collaboration and investigations
  • Fluent in English & French
