Millennium & Copthorne Hotels plc ("M&C") has been awarded the management
contract for the five-star Millennium Hongqiao Shanghai by the owner of the
property, the Shanghai Workers Union.
The 350 room hotel is located in Shanghai's commercial and residential district
in Hongqiao, close to the Shanghai Exhibition and Convention Centre and ten
minutes from the city's Hongqiao Airport. The hotel is scheduled to open in
mid-2006.
Chief Executive, Tony Potter, said:
"In keeping with our strategy to increase our presence in Asia, we are delighted
to have been awarded this contract in Shanghai, one of the most dynamic cities
in the region. This is the first step for M&C in creating a presence in China
and we aim to continue our expansion there in key gateway cities."
