In 2009, Kyiv’s historic five-star Premier Palace Hotel celebrates its 100th anniversary. As part of the Hotel’s year-long celebrations, Premier Palace is announcing a nationwide Competition for Chamber Orchestras.
Premier Palace receives visitors from all four corners of the world in the best traditions of great hotels. From its very beginning, the Hotel was a center where artists gathered. Today, just as 100 years ago, the Premier Palace is ready to support Ukrainian arts.
Chamber orchestras have always been a source of pride for Ukrainian society. But over the last few decades, alas, they have had neither the attention nor the support that they deserve.
For this reason, we hope that 2009 will become a milestone year for Ukraine’s chamber music. For the first time since independence, Ukraine will hold a separate, independent competition for chamber orchestras, gathering all its best musicians in the capital so that they can show who deserves the title, “The Best.”
Thanks to the efforts of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine and the Premier Palace Hotel, our country’s chamber orchestras will be able to show the world their performances of masterpieces of the art of chamber music.
Ukraine’s top professional chamber orchestras will all be represented at this competition. Judging them will be an international jury led by well-known conductor and merited arts professional of both Ukraine and Russia, Anton Sharoyev. The other members of the jury include: world-famous British conductor Peter Marchbank; well-known composer and conductor Myroslav Skoryk, HU, National Artist and Shevchenko Laureate; and seminal composer Yevhen Stankovych, National Artist and Shevchenko Laureate.
The competition will take place May 11–14, 2009:
May 11 – registration of participants, drawing lots and rehearsals
May 12 – Round І (Sofiyivskiy Grand Hall, Premier Palace Hotel)
May 13 – Round ІІ (Sofiyivskiy Grand Hall, Premier Palace Hotel)
The competition performances are open to guests of the Premier Palace Hotel, the press, and music critics.
May 14, 19.00-21.30 – Gala Concert by competition participants in honor of Premier Palace Hotel’s 100th Anniversary (Lysenko Column Hall of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine)
