Boutique hotel IVY Shanghai's teppanyaki restaurant Kuromastsu is celebrating Japan's 'cherry blossom' season with a special set-menu dedicated to the annual festival.

Served from March 15-May 15, the celebratory menu is priced at RMB168 and features delicacies traditionally shared by Japanese families and friends at picnics under sakura trees.

It starts with traditional sakura perilla cold noodles, spicy tuna and sashimis of salmon, yellow-tail and Hokki clam, complemented by a sweet and sour sakura cocktail of sake, watermelon and fresh lemon.

Completing the festive menu is grilled cod, deep-fried tempura, miso soup, Japanese pickles, rice and fruit.

The 'Hanami' cherry blossom festival is a popular and important event on Japan's social calendar for outdoor picnics and parties celebrating the end of winter.

IVY Shanghai's signature restaurant is becoming renowned for high-end classic Japanese teppanyaki cuisine at the chic new boutique hotel in fashionable Jing’an, a short stroll the shopping and business hub of Nanjing West Road.

A range of teppanyaki menus feature American and Japanese Wagyu beef, abalone, crab, sea urchin and black cod, complemented by a sophisticated wine list, premium sakes and creative cocktails.

Heading the kitchen is chef Kevin Lee, formerly of Hong Kong’s premier teppanyaki restaurant, Matsubishi.

IVY Shanghai is in a converted 1950s cinema, styled with flamboyant China-pop design by celebrated American-French designer Dillon Garris.

The 46-room boutique hotel is the mainland China flagship of CHI - International, a luxury Hong Kong-headquartered hotel management group with resorts and serviced apartments in Hong Kong and Fiji.
