Family Trees

Exceptional interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work in teams. Relevant administrative and project management experience. Green thumbs a definite asset. Well, okay, Four Seasons Hotel Singapore hasn't revised their job descriptions just yet. But thanks to a new initiative, employees can now add gardening to their list of abilities.

Clearing a piece of lawn to make way for a vegetable patch, the Hotel has embarked on a project to educate staff about sustainable farming methods. Seven departments are involved, each tasked with tending to a plot of land with a chosen crop - lime, lemongrass, basil, tarragon or turmeric, to name a few. Using only organic compost for fertilizer, the teams are helping to harvest fresh produce from the vegetable patch directly for use in its kitchens.

Having Dim Sum at Jiang-Nan Chun? Human Resources' attention to the chili plants helped give the X.O. sauce its extra kick. Enjoy the Banana Cake Caramelised with Maple Syrup and Double Cream at One-Ninety? Thank a member of the engineering team, who tended the bananas. Even the Executive Office is involved, following a strict watering and weeding schedule for the curry leaves.

Cooking at Four Seasons Hotel Singapore is truly a team effort. Visit them today to taste the fruits of their labour.
