Hotel celebrates with the launch of a luxury room and culinary package

Amber restaurant at The Landmark Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong, has again been recognised by the San Pellegrino “World’s 50 Best Restaurants” Awards, organised by Restaurant Magazine in the UK. Amber continues to be the only restaurant in the Greater China region to appear in the top 50 ranking.

Amber’s two-Michelin-star chef, Richard Ekkebus, says, “It is a wonderful recognition to appear again on the “World’s 50 Best Restaurants” listing. The panel is made up of 800 highly regarded industry movers and shakers, including foodies, journalists and bloggers whose opinions matter as they are the worldwide taste makers. It motivates myself and my team to work even harder in order to improve consistency and our dishes, and to source increasingly exceptional ingredients.”

Richard began his illustrious career with an apprenticeship in his native Holland under Michelin-star chefs Hans Snijders and Robert Kranenborg. He further perfected his art under the tutelage of some of the greatest three-Michelin-star chefs in France, including Pierre Gagnaire, Alain Passard and Guy Savoy.

Having built his reputation on a solid foundation of traditional French cooking techniques, Richard is known for his focus on superior produce and innovative presentation, creating cuisine with a contemporary and light feel. His signature creations such as “Sea Urchin in a Lobster Jelly with Cauliflower, Caviar and Crispy Seaweed Waffle”, “Bresse Pigeon Breast Charcoal Grilled, the Leg Minced and Prepared as a ‘Crépinette’”, and “Blood Orange Sorbet with Florentine’s and Confit Zest” continue to delight guests with every bite.

“Mandarin Oriental hotels are renowned for creating memorable dining experiences for guests through excellence and innovation,” said Anthony Costa, General Manager of The Landmark Mandarin Oriental. “The gastronomic landscape in Hong Kong is constantly evolving and we are truly honoured that Richard and his team’s efforts have again been acknowledged, particularly given the competition locally and from around the world.”
