Walking Tour Celebrates the Renowned History and Architecture of Chicago
Anyone strolling the streets of Chicago will undoubtedly notice the grandeur of the city’s architecture and the volumes of history waiting to be revealed. To celebrate the city’s vibrant past and elegant design, the Omni Chicago Hotel is partnering with the Cathedral District Association to present the Cathedral District Walking Tour. From the new-gothic style of the Archbishop Quigley Preparatory Seminary to the first athletic club for women in the United States – Women’s Athletic Club – the Cathedral District Walking Tour will allow locals and travelers alike to indulge in Chicago’s history and spirituality.
Starting at the Fourth Presbyterian Church, the second oldest building on Michigan Avenue, participants will span an area ranging on the west from LaSalle Boulevard bound by Michigan Avenue on the east and north from Delaware Place south to Ontario Street. The tour ends at the Omni Chicago Hotel.
“From beautiful cathedrals to the Great Fire of 1871, Chicago is a city with a rich history to share,” said Bill Bennett, area director of sales for the Omni Chicago Hotel. “We are honored to partner with the Cathedral District to bring to life a piece of Chicago heritage, not only to our visitors, but those native to Chicago.”
“The area surrounding St. James, Holy Name Cathedral and Fourth Presbyterian has helped define the history and spiritual life of Chicago,” said Terri Ryan, executive director of the Cathedral District. “Since the city created the Cathedral District in 1988, the area has experienced tremendous growth and this tour serves as a great way to display our neighborhood and city.”
